Bay of Pigs

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military landing operation on the southwestern coast of Cuba in 1961. The Americans barely supported the Bay of Pigs invasion and despite it's failure. They went to swampy area on the southern coast of Cuba on a night landing might bring a force ashore against little resistance and help to hide any U.S. involvement to help the Bay of Pigs to win the war. Unfortunately the landing site also left the invading force more than 80 miles from refuge in Cuba's Escambray Mountains, if anything went wrong.

The original invasion plan called for two air strikes against Cuban air bases. A 1,400 men invasion force would go under cover in the darkness underground and they will launch a surprise attack underground. The United Revolutionary Front will send leaders from South Florida to help and establish a provisional government for the Bay of Pigs. The CIA had used World War II B-26 bombers and painted them to look like Cuban air force planes. The bombers missed many of their targets and left most of Castro's air force connected.

As news broke of the attack photos of the repainted U.S. planes became public and revealed American support for the invasion. President Kennedy cancelled a second air strike. On April 17, the Cuban exile invasion force known as Brigade 2506  landed at some of the beaches along the Bay of Pigs and immediately came under fire. Cuban planes strafed the invaders sank two escort ships and destroyed half of the exile's air support.

My thoughts..  It's sad that the Bay of Pigs failed.  Many of the soldiers died because of th5tf;ois war. I am glad they were trying to win the war but it was hard for them. They did'nt do a great battle between Cuba.

  • I think the reason why it failed is because the U.S. Cubans were outnumbered. Also, I think the reason why it didn't work out is because some of the Cubans that came from Cuba were spying on the Americans training the rest of the Cubans who wanted to fight back against the dictator. Which then led to the Cubans that America was training to be screwed as soon as they invaded. After all, the dictator's Cubans already knew where they were going to attack and how they were going to attack because of the Cubans that were spying on America relaying information to the dictator back in Cuba.

  • I think the Bay of Pigs invasion failed because they were not really prepared. It was a war between the United States and Cuba. I would feel really scared if I had been part of this war. This invasion was a failed war for the United States.

  • I think that the Bay of Pigs was a waste of time and effort. They didn't go in as prepared and ready as they could've been, which lead to their downfall. If they would have been successful, I would be okay to be apart of it.

  • We recently learned about this in history and I didn't know much about the Bay of Pigs before. I think the bay of pigs was destin to fail from the beginning. I think the military just wasn't ready and it caused it to fail.

  • The Bay of Pigs ended up being a huge failure for multiple reasons. This attack did not have enough soldiers because they did not get the element of suprise they wanted and many Cubans did not join their side as they expected.

  • They should have prepared more before invading, but it also didn't help that there were some of Castro's people spying on them sothey knew the plan. If I had been apart of this failed mission I would be embarrassed and upset with myself for doing better, for not winning.

  • I would say the cause of the Bay of Pigs invasion failure was due to the military not being ready. They had planned for the Cuban people to rise up along with the people who were a part of the military, this did not happen. The Bay of Pigs was not successful with this war.

  • The reason that the Bay of Pigs failed it because overall they were not ready. The Bay of Pigs was not successfull because they were not prepared with any recourses.

  • A reason that the Bay of Pigs didn't work out is because they weren't prepared like they should have been. They didn't have the resources and equipment to successfully reach their goal. I'm not sure how I would feel about it if I were part of this war.

  • The Bay of Pigs plan failed because they weren't properly prepared and they didn't have the resources and equipment they needed to succeed. The Bay of Pigs was not successful because the troop that was invading was overpowered by Cuba.
