On Wednesday in Mississippi, a 2 year old was left in the backseat after her mother forgot to drop her off at daycare. On the way home from work, the mother stopped at the girls daycare to pick her up. As she walked in the building to get the child, day care workers confronted her that she had never dropped off her child that morning. She soon came to the tragic discovery of her 2 year old still in the backseat of the car. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother claims it was an accident and charges are still pending.

1.) Do you think the mother could possibly forget about her child in the backseat? Why?

2. Do you think the mother would remember stopping at the daycare to drop her off that morning?

Personally I believe the mother would know the child was still in the car. She claims she went to the daycare to pick her up, but wouldn't she remember that she never dropped her off that morning? And usually when i'm in my car, I still check the backseats to make sure I have everything.

  • Yes it is possible she forgot about her daughter people forget things all the time. Yes people get in a routine and don't remember if they don't do the routine.

  • I think that is depressing to think that a mother could forget her child in the backseat of a vehicle. I would be worried that this mother was incapable of caring for this now deceased child. That mother could have a medical condition for which caused her to forget about the young child.

  • I think that it could be possible that the mother forgot her child in the backseat. Parents can easily forget their kids places. She could have just had a busy morning and in the rush of it all, forgot about her.

She probably didn't remember about it in the morning but then out of habit, after work she went to pick her up and she hadn't even dropped the child off.

  • I think she could have forgot. But like you all are saying, I still don't understand how she didn't see her or the car seat in the back and how she forgot the child was back there in general. Unless there was a whole lot going on in her head.

  • Yes I think the mother could have forgot about the baby with lots of stuff on her mind. I would think she would have remembered stopping at the daycare.

  • I do think it is possible to forget to drop the child off. The mother might have been thinking about other things and completely forget about it- it happens all the time.

    • I agree its possible she forgot to drop the child off but I think its quite ridiculous that the mother didn't even hear her child in the backseat or anything.

  • I think the mother could forget especially if there was a lot of things going through her mind. You would think you would be used to the daily routine of dropping the kid off and then picking her up. I would also think that she would be able to hear the child if it was making any noises.

  • I think it could've been intentional because you don't just leave your child in a car. Plus there have been stories like this before where parents will intentionally leave their kids in the vehicle to kill them. Yes she would remember

  • I don't think you'd forget about your kid in the backseat, I mean she could have done this on purpose.
