1.9 Million Pounds of Chicken Recalled

National Steak and Poultry, a meat packing plant, issued a recall of nearly 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products. The recalled products are sold as fully cooked chicken for consumers to heat and serve. This product is being recalled because of possible under cooking, leading to an increase of harmful bacteria. This bacteria can lead to gastrointestinal distress and illnesses for the consumer.

The first recall of the under cooked products came on November 23 from an Oklahoma that included 17,439 pounds of under cooked chicken. After this more and more companies began to recall the under cooked chicken and the total  amount recalled is up to 1,993,528 pounds. These under cooked products were produced between August 20 and November 30.

1. What would you do if you had purchased one of these products and became ill?

2. Do you think it is possible more items from this company could be under cooked?, What does this company need to do?

  • Good job Will! -5 late

  • I would probably be upset and sue the company because it shouldn't have been sold .

I think it could be likely if these have gone unnoticed, it could be possible that more have. They need to beef up their regulations before they leave on the truck.

  • I would sue because it is supposed to be cooked and could get money out of it. They need to be sure they cook their meat becuase it could be very dangerous and it shouldn't be too hard to regulate it.

  • i think i would see how serious the illness is but a law suit might be needed if they knew their product was contaminated and still decided to sell it, it goes against food safety rules. i mean mistakes happen so i think they should just check their products just in case before they mass produce them because if they don't they are going to lose a lot of money and costumers when they have to recall them.

  • This could happen to anyone. I wouldn't do anything unless I became really really sick. I think it could be highly possible. The company needs to follow procedures correctly.

  • I would be very upset with the company that was making and distributing the chicken. I would probably sue the company if I became sick or someone in my family got sick because the chicken said precooked. I think the entire company should be investigated in order to find out if the mass amounts of poultry were the only thing that was under cooked.

  • I would be mad that the company had under cooked their products, and I would probably not get food from that company again. Also depending on how sick I became and what the damages were, I would think about suing the company. Yes I think that more items from this company could be under cooked. I think that this company should have a more thorough inspection of their products.

  • I would probably sue the company if I became ill after eating their product. Since that much meat has been under-cooked then I definitely think that the company needs to check the rest of it's products. I think the company needs to enact tougher policies and maybe they need to hire better foremen to make sure this doesn't happen and that workers are actually doing their job.

  • I would look and see what legal actions needed to be taken after I was well again. I think that this company needs to reevaluate what their standards are and start fresh.

    • I think the main hit this company will take is not the medical bills of the people, but the reward the people who sue will get from the company. Many people aren't going to take a illness like this lightly and the company is going to have to pay a lot of money. I think the company needs to have a department within the company to make sure this doesn't happen again.
