Federal Emergency Relief Act

FERA was passed in 1933

Fera provided relief to people ( tried to get them back on their feet)

was one of the first relief programs

gave 3 billion dollars for relief programs

provided work for 20 million people

started 500 million dollars for reconstruction

They rebuilt parks, bridges, roads, etc

 

Home Owner's Loan Corporation

Establkished in 1933

purpose was to refinance mortgages  so people didnt lose their houses

They sold bonds in exchange for mortgages

Borrowers were required to make a down payment

It twas succesful

And very benificial

 

Public Works Administration

Spent billions to make jobs

funded 70% of new schools

spent big money for big projects

was successful

 

Federal Housing Administration

  Provided mortgageinsurance

largest insurer of mortgages in the world

hired people to build homes for military personel and their families

FHA insured loans required little money

wanted to impprove housing standards

also wanted to stabilize the mortgage market

Still around today

 

Works Progress Administration

largest new deal agency

made to help citizens that were poor

constructed parks and such\

wanted to employ people that were unemployed

operated projects in the arts. drama, plays and such

funded libraries

trained 30,000 women for employment

very succesful overall

blah blah did the same thing every other organization did

WPA ended because of WWII

 

National Labor Relations Act

protected employees rights

stopped employers from interfering with labor unions

       National Labor Relations Board

organized labor unions
