As many people may know that cleaning your ears is a part of most everyone's personal hygiene. Cotton swabs are the most common method of cleaning your ears but they might not be as harmless as some may think. The American Academy of Otolaryngology states that cotton swabs aren't only ineffective, but also harmful.
Using cotton Swabs, bobby pins or any other object smaller than your elbow can cause some damage. Sticking these object in your ear to clean them can cause small cuts in the ear canal, damage to the ear drum, and dislocation of the bones in the ear resulting in hearing loss, dizziness and ringing of the ears. Considering if as person were to clean their ears often.Cotton swabs are an ineffective method of cleaning ears because using a swab only pushes the earwax build up deeper into the ear canal. Ear wax is a natural thing. It helps lubricate the ear and protect it form things that aren't supposed to be in the ear. With more patience and using swabs less often cotton swabs can be harmless. It becomes a problem when people are to rough of clean their ears excessively.
Do you think people are pressured into cleaning their ears based on what society thinks is "clean"?
I personally think people are because I think people would probably give no attention to it because you cant see it, but I also think its healthy to clean it to an extent not too much.
Does this article change your opinion on the most common method of cleaning your ears?
I personally don't think so because I feel like if you do it in healthy way in time it will not affect you.

Well done and good story!
Yes, I think since we've heard a lot of people clean their ears with cotton swabs we all decide to use them. This pretty much scared me into not wanting to clean my ears but i'm used to cleaning my ears everyday to keep them clean and I don't know if i'll be able to stop but i'll defiantly be extra careful.
Since you clean your ears everyday would you consider a better option for cleaning them?
Yes, I don't think that people really want other people looking into their ears knowing that they are dirty because then they might get the wrong idea about you and start thinking that you are a dirty person, so I do believe that people pressure other people to clean their ears.
Yes, I clean my ears just about every day and pretty harsh, so this reading has changed my thinking because I don't want to mess with the bones in my ears or my ear drum. I will have to find a better solution to clean my ears.
Have you ever thought of the affects of cleaning your ears before the article?
I don't think people are pressured into cleaning their ears, but personally I think people should just for personal hygiene. It doesn't really affect my opinion because I will probably still use cotton swabs even after reading this article. It just makes me more aware of the dangers of cotton swabs and cleaning your ears with them.
I think people are just being told what it is the best to clean your ear. To keep your health good as if there's too much ear wax then it can cause problems but I don't think they are pressurized. I don't think this change my opinion of cleaning, but it just give me more information and new ways to clean ears.
I don't think people are pressured into it, I think it's something that people just do. I've heard that if you push it too far into your ear, it can damage it. People just use them because they are convenient and easy to use. If someone came up with something that was safer and more effective, people would probably use it more than cotton swabs. It doesn't really change my opinion of them, but it defiantly provides a medical perspective that reveals cotton swab's consequences.
I don't think that people are pressured to clean their ears because it is not something most people comment on. Cleaning your ears can be good occasionally but society doesn't focus on ear hygiene too much. This article doesn't change my opinion because as long as you aren't doing it all the time and in a careful way you should be alright.
If you were to see someone will unclean ears would that change your opinion on their hygiene?
