The Trump document suituation

Trump was accused of mishandling classified documents. Classified documents are information created or received by an agency of the federal government or a government contractor that would damage national security if improperly released. When Trump left office in 2021 he had taken documents of his presidency and was asked for months by the National Archives and Records Administration to give them back but he refused. After months of demanding, Trump’s representatives finally turned over 15 boxes of records in January 2022, almost a year after he left office

When they got the documents they were shocked to find that there were 197 documents with classified markings, including 92 marked as secret, and 25 marked as top secret. In May 2022, the grand jury subpoena Trump to turn over all classified documents that he had kept to the Justice Department.Trump refused for a long time until eventually he let one of his lawyers search for the documents but before the lawyer could begin the review trump had his ade move dozens of boxes from a storage room to his residence, hiding them from the lawyers.

Finally in June, 2022, his lawyers turned over 38 additional legal documents. Things came to a crisis on Aug. 8, 2022, when the FBI found an additional 102 classified documents from Trump's office at his residence and in a storage room. In all they found 300 classified government documents from Trump all marking from secret to top secret/sensitive information. Trump had charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding and corruptly concealing a document or record, and concealing a document in a federal investigation which carry up to 20 years in prison.

  • Good topic choice Nic! Next time, include more of your voice and opinions.

  • I think that Trump obviously did not do the right thing. That being said, I am not sure what punishment he should recieve because I do not know what the documents contained. I believe that his punishment should be based off of the importance of the documents that were in his possesion.

  • personly I think trump should be in peison because what he did might be agenst country rules. I think he did it because he wanted to see if there were any secrets about what the president could do.

    • I think that you might be right.
