Gypsy Rose was born on July 27, 1991 in Golden meadow, LA. Early in Gypsy's life she was found to be very sick. Growing up it was always her and her mother, Clauddine (Dee Dee) Blanchard. Gypsy’s whole life her mother had told not only her but doctors, family members, and friends, that Gypsy was sick with a variety of diseases. Dee Dee would lie about symptoms to make Gypsy seem more sick and in worse conditions. At a very young age her mom started saying Gypsy had sleep apnea. From then the diagnosis' started building. She claimed Gypsy would have seizures, asthma, leukemia, and complications with her hearing and vision. Gypsy had multiple surgeries done and medications prescribed wrongfully. From all the medication her teeth had rotten and been pulled. Gypsy had her head shaved by her mother and was put in a wheelchair and feeding tube when she needed none. Dee Dee would also add in medication that numbs your legs used for dogs so that it made the wheelchair seem believable. Dee Dee suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen syndrome. Eventually, Dee Dee stopped seeing doctors as test started to come back negative seeing as it was all made up.
Dee Dee played her part as much as she could because of the attention she was receiving. They gained a lot of money from the community and people around them for medical expenses. They even received a free house. In 2011, Gypsy and her online boyfriend she met at a convention planned to run away. She got tracked down by her mother and brought home to her computer completely smashed and wouldn't give her access to her bed. In 2015, she regained her access to the internet and found a new boyfriend (Nicholas Godejohn) on a Christian dating website. She told Nick everything her mom had been doing to her and they had made plans to kill her mother. He came to the Blanchards home and stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy hid in the bathroom with her ears covered. They made their escape to Wisconsin, but they were met by police. The police became aware of her mothers body because Gypsy had made a post on facebook saying "That b---- is dead", hoping her body would be found.
Gypsy pleaded guilty to second degree murder in 2016 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Godejohn was charged with first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Gypsy Rose got released early in December of 2023 and is now 33 years old. Gypsy has said that she is happy she is out of that situation, but is not happy her mother is dead. Gypsy claims she is happier than ever now and with her new boyfriend, they are expecting a baby in January 2025.
In my opinion, I think that what Dee Dee was doing was very wrong and that she did deserve to be punished but not murder. I think Gypsy could have done something better like call the police for help instead of just killing her. I think that Godejohn got the right sentence for what he did. I also think that Gypsy got a good amount of sentencing even though she didn't finish out her full sentence.

Good topic choice and summary Vailen! You should have replied back quiter a few more times.
I think they got the right sentences, and I think Dee Dee deserved to die. Gypsy could've seeked help differently, by asking someone what to do, or telling the police, what she did was still wrong.
Do you think they got the right sentence? Yes, I do think they got the right sentences and got what they deserved. Even though her mom was not doing the right thing there was better ways to handle it. I do not think killing her mom was the best idea as it leat her to jail.
1.) I agree with the sentencing, she was abused and mistreated, but I think she deserves to spend jail time, due to her murdering Dee Dee. Her mother treated her terribly and should have spent her life in prison, not death.
I think that they did get the right sentencing for killing who they did. I dont think that she desevered to be killed although she did do unbarbale things to her child she could of talked to someone instead of killing her. I think that gypsy could of gotten away from all that was going on, and go to someone about it.
I do think that they mostly got deserved what they got for what they did. Dee Dee was really terrible for abusing Gypsy and that was not right at all. She should have just went to a doctor instead of staying with her boyfriend in my eyes but it happened and can't be reversed.
I don't think Gypsy should've been charged so severely when the murder could be counted as self defence. Dee Dee was an awful person, who abused Gypsy for over a decade, and forced her to take drugs and false perscriptions. Dee Dee should've gotten mental halp decades sooner.
I feel like what Dee Dee did was wrong, but that did not give her along with her boyfriend the right to kill her. I do not think that Dee Dee should have died because she was struggling and trying to make money, although it was off of her daughter. Gypsy could have talked to one of her doctors instead of acting with her boyfriend.
I think that she deserved that sentencing that she got sice she killed her mother. Also, her partner and her planned to take someones life and you deserve time for that no matter who you are. I think that her mother shouldnt gaven her the drugs, the mother should have been sent to prison for her harm to her child but not killed.
Personally, I feel like Gypsy did get the sentencing she deserved. Although she went through trauma, that doesn't justify the fact that she contributed in the murder of Dee Dee. I don't feel like she (Dee Dee) deserved to die. Gypsy could have somehow reported what she was going through to someone else. She could have also found a way not to take the drugs that her mom forced her to take.
