Try to imagine an ethnic group that doesn’t use technology or electricity, can’t join the army, and can’t attend High School or college. Well since there are Amish people there is no need to imagine it because it’s a reality for them. The first Amish came to America in the early 17th century and since then it has spread across the United States in places like Pennsylvania, Maine, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa and many other states. Let's take a look at what the Amish can and can't do.
What can the Amish actually not do? Well first of all, they can't own automobiles like a car or truck, use electricity, own television, radio, etc. They can only use certain kinds of electronic devices for certain purposes. They also can't get divorces, attend a college or highschool or join the military as stated before. So why do the Amish choose to live this way? Well it's because of their beliefs. The Amish believe in God and live a simple unworldly life. They believe that men and women should wear plain modest clothing and that men should grow beards and never shave them. The Amish follow an Ordnung (set of rules/orders), this is intended to keep their communities separate from the rest of the world to maintain a traditional way of life.
How different is their lifestyle from ours? The Amish are US citizens and pay taxes, property, sales, estate, etc. The Amish also don't have social security numbers. The US congress freed the Amish from having to do so because the Amish viewed it as a form of commercial insurance which they opposed. Many Amish people use modern medicine but more traditionally prefer alternative forms of medical treatments. The Amish are somewhat like us but living differently. They still have lifes and pay taxes just like we do. In conclusion, the Amish do live their lives differently from us but they are a group of people who believe in living their lives differently from others due to beliefs.

The Amish lifestyle is tough. It is an interesting way of living. It is different from what we have today with our ways of transportation and technology. It would be interesting to try and live the way their everyday lives are because its so different.
I agree, it's interesting how the Amish live. I couldn't imagine myself living the way they do around others that are way more advanced and efficient in the things they do.
What do you think about the Amish lifestyle? I think it Is a good thing. They are often more healthy because they don';t have some of the bad foods we do. They often work very hard. They have an awsome work ethic and ar much stronger than us. I would not be Amish for the reason of technology. I think is would be cool to try and live their life style for like a week and see how hard it is.
I guess I never really thought about how they might be healthier since some of the Amish choose not to eat processed foods. But the Amish don't have restrictions on food so they can actually eat whatever they want.
I think the lifestyle itself is pretty cool as it is very unique from the rest of the world and they are hard workers so their culture to me is very interesting. Even though I think their lives and cultures are cool I would not want to live their life style as I do love the culture I'm in and the lifestyle I live.
2.) I don't think I would become Amish because I am grateful for the advancements in technology and the things I have. I also want to attend schools and colleges to obtain a higher education. This would allow me to get paid and get a better-paying job, to get the things I want and need.
i think the amish lifestyle sounds sad, depressing, and dull. women can not wear what they wish to wear, men have to have beards. it seems way too controling and would be scary to live in. I would not want to become amish becuase i would be sad with my life.
You have to remember for them this how they want to live themselves so while it might not be how you want to live it doesn't mean that they are feeling controlled or live in fear. The women want to wear plain clothes and have no problem with it and the men are fine with having to have a beard.
Yes, the Amish life sadly does sound kind of depressing. I like to dress how I want and look how I want. This is something I would definitely struggle with if I was Amish.
