In high school many students are involved in sports, activities, or clubs. Some students prefer to have a study hall or another class over physical education. The first teaching of physical education was in 1825 by a German named Charles Beck in Massachusetts. The big question is; Should students be required to take PE? There are many pros and cons of being required to take PE as a high school student.
Firstly, the pros. In highschool many students are very busy with work and school work. Sometimes this causes them to not get physical activity every day. Requiring PE would help those students move their bodies throughout the day. Another pro would be relieving stress. During the day all of the students' classes are just learning and homework, PE would let the students forget about the stress of homework and move their bodies. Studies have shown that physical education can improve academic behavior, enhanced concentration, and improved class behavior.
On the other hand, many students do not prefer to be required to take PE. Some students want to participate in physical activity less than others. As they would rather spend their time on something they enjoy. It takes students out of a class that they might have more interest in. Students may want to use the hour for college classes or trade school classes.
I feel highschool students should be required to take PE. When students are required to take PE it gets them to move their bodies. I believe that will help them relieve some stress, hopefully causing them to do better in classes. Oftentimes students would like to work out at home or at the gym but they get busy with work or school and don’t get around to doing it as often as they’d like.
Do you think highschool students should have to take PE?
Do you think if you’re in a sport you should be exempt from PE?
Do you think it is good that the teachers pick the games for the students in PE?

Excellent job Catherine!
I think everyone should be in a PE class because some students might not get the exercise in other places but students that do a sport or two should be excused from PE. But I like having a PE class but I wish we could have it up to a year.
I'm kind of in between on this one, well yes it’s nice to be able to get and free your mind from the hard school work on your brain, while on the other hand I wish I had more time for classes too. If I had to choose one though I would say PE.
I think that people should be required to take a PE class unless they are already in a sport or don't have room in their schedules since their taking a lot of classes. Personally, I don't have PE this school year because I'm focusing on taking classes I need to graduate or get into a good college.
I think it is good for their health to be in at least 1 PE class, If you are in a sport you are most likely being more active then you are in a PE class, therefore I think you shouldn't have to be in PE. I think the students should get to pick what they want to do in the class.
I think people should be required to take PE because it gives some people excercise for if they don't exercise at home. I think if you are in a sport you would be able to choose if you would want to go to PE because if you go into PE then you're super tired then it is hard for you to practice when you are doing your sport. I think that some students should be able to pick the games that the students do but it is ok for teachers to pick the games too.
I think that high school students should have to take PE. This is because many students are already lazy and would greatly benefit from even a small amount of exercise. Another reason that I think students should have to take PE is because in most classes all you do is sit in a desk for 45 minutes and learn, which means you do not get many breaks.
I think school students need to take a PE class so people don't get lazy. I think if you are in a sport you should still have to take some sort of PE class. I think they should make a list of games and have the kids pick what they want to do and then erase that game and keep picking new ones every week.
I think that highschoolers who are in multipul sports should be able to chose to be in a pe class or not. But, the people who don't participate in sports should have to take at least one pe class because they need to learn how to be active too.
I agree. I think that students who are not in sports should be required to take at least a semester of PE a year to make sure they are getting some sort of physical activity in during the day.
