Should The US Have Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight savings time has been around for over a hundred years. During World War I, Germany was wanting to find a way to save energy. In 1916 they started using daylight savings time.  After the US found out about daylight savings time, the US wanted to start using it as well. The US eventually started using daylight savings in 1918. We are one of the 70 countries that still use daylight savings time today.

Daylight savings time does not only save energy, it also makes it so there are longer daylight hours. With this, people can do a lot more things in the day. It will be easier for people to get to work and come home because it is light out. It can also be safer for people because light makes it easier to see what is going on in their surroundings. Daylight savings is also good for the economy. When it is light outside, more people are going out and doing things like spending money for groceries or shopping. Lastly, it makes people have more active lifestyles. With this, you see more people outside doing different activities and playing sports.

Daylight savings time is not always beneficial. One con of daylight savings time is it is bad for people's health. There are some people that die every year because they are stressed by daylight savings time. When people get stressed they get headaches and some people even have heart attacks. Another thing daylight savings time does is drop productivity. Daylight savings time can make people tired, thus they are not being as productive at work or in their daily activities at home.

I don’t think we should keep daylight savings time. It causes a lot of deaths and it makes a lot of people tired so they don’t want to do things. It is also really confusing for people since the times are off. I can see why people think we should keep it though.

  • I think we should keep daylight saving time because it's already naturally kind of built into our lives. It would be weird having it gone because it's been here our whole lives. It does have benefits like making it light out more often. This allows people to do more since it wouldn't be dark outside and as you said, it would be safer for people to be able to see their surroundings.

    • I disagree with what you said. Even though it has been around for a long time and could get confusing if it gone, daylight savings still can be really confusing. People are so used to it being a certain time and then it changes.

  • I feel like we should keep it but we should see if there is some way to make it easier on people's health. Although it does have an impact on some people's health it helps the country as a whole so I think it is beneficial but not perfect.

    • I can see why you said that. One of the main reasons why I think we should get rid of daylight savings time is it can cause deaths. I feel like if they can find a solution that can cause less deaths then that will help out a lot more.

  • The US in my opinion should keep daylight savings because it is brighter for when kids are walking home from school which means its safer for kids. I think its benificial because of safer when walking home from school, work, and other places. I think that even though people die from the stress of daylight savings, we should still keep it because if we dont then there would probably be even more deaths from traffic accidents.

    • I disagree with what you said. It is good when it is lighter out to see kids so there aren't any accidents, but it can still cause deaths from stress. When people are stressed and can cause heartattacks. I can see why you think it is benifical though.

  • Should the US keep daylight savings time? I think no. It makes it so that we are not used to the world being pitch black at 5 pm. Or the world being light 9 pm. So I think that because we are the only country to de daylight saving, that we shouldn't and that no one is really gaining anything from it.

    • I agree with you because it is very confusing when the times are switched up. I also agree with what you said about how we are one of 70 countries that still use daylight savingings time. There are so many countries that got rid of it already.

  • I can see why many people are against daylight savings. At first, it was a good idea and a good system. Now, I believe it is just an inconvience and its nothing speacial to people anymore. At this point I dont think getting rid of it will change much but it would make things a lot simpler.

    • I agree with what you said. I think it doesn't really affect us people. It can also make a lot of people confused since it is light or dark out at a certain time. I also think if we get rid of daylight savings it will be more simpler.
