Should The US Have Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight savings time has been around for over a hundred years. During World War I, Germany was wanting to find a way to save energy. In 1916 they started using daylight savings time.  After the US found out about daylight savings time, the US wanted to start using it as well. The US eventually started using daylight savings in 1918. We are one of the 70 countries that still use daylight savings time today.

Daylight savings time does not only save energy, it also makes it so there are longer daylight hours. With this, people can do a lot more things in the day. It will be easier for people to get to work and come home because it is light out. It can also be safer for people because light makes it easier to see what is going on in their surroundings. Daylight savings is also good for the economy. When it is light outside, more people are going out and doing things like spending money for groceries or shopping. Lastly, it makes people have more active lifestyles. With this, you see more people outside doing different activities and playing sports.

Daylight savings time is not always beneficial. One con of daylight savings time is it is bad for people's health. There are some people that die every year because they are stressed by daylight savings time. When people get stressed they get headaches and some people even have heart attacks. Another thing daylight savings time does is drop productivity. Daylight savings time can make people tired, thus they are not being as productive at work or in their daily activities at home.

I don’t think we should keep daylight savings time. It causes a lot of deaths and it makes a lot of people tired so they don’t want to do things. It is also really confusing for people since the times are off. I can see why people think we should keep it though.

  • I think that we should keep daylight savings time. It isn’t permanent so if people don’t like it they don’t have to get used to having it all the time. It helps lots of people get more sleep at night and be able to get up in the morning since it is brighter.

    • I disagree with what you said. Even though it happens only two times a year it can still be confusing to some people. I feel like when we gain an hour people get more sleep but when we lose an hour people get less sleep. I feel like even though one gains and hour and one loses a hour people are still tired the next morning.

  • Should the US keep daylight savings time? I think that it was a very useful thing back when it was made Is daylight saving time beneficial? I think that its kind of a dead tardital or will become a dead traion like curse we just don't use it or don't need to anymore

    • I agree with what you said. I feel like more people used it in the past then they do now. I feel like since people don't use it now there is no reason why we need to keep it. It just makes poeple confused and tired which makes them not want to do things.

  • I my opinion I belive that the US should stop doing daylight savings time because it was for the farmers because they dident have tractors with lights on them but now almost all tractors come with lights, plus datlight savings time now only messes with peoples sleeping scedual.

    • I agree with what you said. I think daylight savings was a lot more benifical in the past then now. Most tractors now have headlights so if they really need to they can see where they are going. I also agree that it can mess up everyones sleeping schedules.

  • The US should not keep daylight saving time because it messes with a lot of people they're sleeping time and it also helps them cuz you get sometimes you get more sleep and people are falling asleep over because of daylight savings time Sometimes it's beneficial this because sometimes you get extra time sleep and sometimes you don't and it gets darker sometimes at night or it's it's the sun comes up earlier in the morning

    • I agree with what you said. Daylight savings time messes with a lot of peoples sleep schedules since people are so used to it being light or dark at a certain time. When it messes up are sleeping schedule usually when people are at work, school, or activities they feel tired and don't want to do things.

  • I think we should keep it since it has been a tradition in our live and it just happens. People are also used to daylight savings time so if we did actually get rid of it peple would begin to start getting confused. I do believe that it is beneficial because people are able to gain an hour of sleep and it wouldn't be as dark outside.

    • I diagree with what you said. I know that if we get rid of daylight savings time then people can get confused. But there are still some people who can get confused if we still keep daylight savings time. I feel like it will be confusing at first if we don't have it anymore but then I feel like people will get used to it.
