Many have been arrested and Paris has been pretty torn up by members of the French "gilets jaunes" (meaning yellow vest) movement. They wear the yellow vests because French law says that everybody has to have a yellow vest in their car so one would be available to everybody. The reason people are protesting is because of French president Emmanuel Macron's tax policy. Since he was elected in 2017, there has been a massive rise in fuel tax and general cost of living. A gallon of gas is almost 5 and a half American dollars, and many people are only pulling in about 1000-1500 Euros a year. Some other reasons is because of France's immigration policy, letting hundreds of thousands of people in from the middle east and north africa. Police have been flooding into Paris and using every non lethal weapon they can to keep the protestors at bay. Many cars have been set on fire, people have been injured, some stores have been destroyed or looted, there have been calls for revolution, but thankfully the protests are starting to die down as they have been going for about 3 weeks now. Almost all of the peaceful protestors from out of town have left and gone back home, too.
Do you think that the protestors are justified in doing what they are doing?
I can't agree with setting cars on fire or destroying storefronts, but I think that if people are having a hard time making ends meet, they have a good reason.
What would you do if you were being affected the way that French people are by these economic policies, would you join the protests?
I would probably join the protest, but not be one of the violent people trying to revolt or anything.

Well I agree with the reason why they are protesting. But I can't say I agree with the protesting that they are doing. It isn't peaceful. Setting cars on fire, recking stores, and looting stores. These people are angry I get it but violence isn't going to help you in the end. I would if I were older. I agree with it right now but I shouldn't be involved in this. I'd go if it was peaceful but then again if it was peaceful nothing would be accomplished.
I think that the protestors have a right to protest for what they are doing and it could be justified in some way but I don't think that protesting is the best way to handle the situation and it probably won't change anything.
I don't think I would join in. There would already be some any people so what would be the point of just one more person to the big crowd. When something does happen like this I will stay out of it and let other people deal with it because I don't want to get into that big mess.
I don't think that these protesters actions can be justified. They are destroying other people property which is unacceptable. There are many other ways the people could have made their voices heard. I understand why they are protesting like this, but their method isn't going to solve the problem anyway. I would probably join, but I wouldn't join in on the violence.
Yeah I agree, they aren't justified. I also agree with that statement about destroying other peoples property that is really unacceptable because they didn't do anything wrong. I mean there are plenty of ways to get something acrossed. But are they really going to take you seriously. That is very well stated. You wouldn't join in on violence but you would help protest.
I do not think that their justification meets the necessary boundries. Deystroying things is not protest, its just plain out wrong. There are many other ways they could have their voices heard. I would try to talk to them that I understand why they are doing this, but that their problems will not be solved by destroying things.
Yea I get your point. They are wrong for deystroying other peoples place of work because they are frustrated. But that doesn't justify anything they are still in the wrong. I mean yes there problems will not be solved by deystroying things. But they might be heard a little better. People might thing that is wrong of me to say. But violence is always heard and talked about.
i think protesters are good in ther own way for stanfing up for wha tthey believe in even though sometimes some protests are completey idiotic some make sense and people just want to be heard about what they beileive is right for them
I think that protestors are hardcore on what they beleive in so far that they would protest about it and I think to a certian extent that they should be able to do what they do but there does come to a point where to much is to much. If I was a Frech person that was being affected by this I would probaby protest.
