One of Europes Top Airlines in Crisis

Air France, one of the largest airlines in France is facing a large crisis. Many of the companies employees are on strike because they don't think they are being paid enough. They are fighting for a 5.1% pay increase per year. Employee wages haven't changed since 2011.  Monday marks the 14th day that the employees have been on strike. Air France was forced to cancel around 15% of all flights, this has caused the company to lose more than $360 million. The companies share price is down 13%. The French Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire, who owns 14% of Air France says he is not willing to help the airline. The company just recently offered it's employees a 2% increase but employees rejected the offer.

1. Do you think the company should just pay the employees what they want? Why or Why shouldn't they?

2. If you were the French Finance Minister would you help the company? Why or Why not?

I think that Air France should try to hurry up and just pay its emplyees because the company has already lost hundreds of millions of dollars and they need to stop losing money as soon as possible.

If I were the French Finance Minister and owned 14% of the company I would be willing to help the airline out because you would be losing a lot of money because of how much I would have invested in the company.

  • You didn't make any comments.

  • The employees and the company need to find a happy medium, but I know that might not be possible with very opinionated employees on strike. I don't think I would help them unless I recieved the money I gave to them back.

  • I think they should because otherwise many of the employees will go find a new job. I probably would not I think the company should take it into there own hands and take care of the problem.

  • I think that the company needs to find a middle ground. I don't think that the company can afford that much of a pay increase. I think that you would have to because you own a good chunk of the company.

  • I think they should pay them more because the workers deserve the increase and they're just going to keep losing money if they keep resisting. I would try to persuade the company to pay its workers more because of the money I'd be losing out on from what I own and because it'd just be the right thing to do for those employed under the airline I'd own a part of.

  • I would help them out a little bit, I would propose the idea of 3.5%, then 4%, then 4.5%, slowly and tell each side the reasoning behind every little thing and what all this would effect because if we give them money it has to come from somewhere else.

  • I think that they sould pay them to an extent, I look on the side of the workers that they are doing all of this work and not getting paid enough while the higher up people are living like kings. I also see from the side of the people deciding this, thats a lot of money to loose and if your just going to give them what they want then there going to ask for even more until you have nothing left

  • I think that they should just give in to the requests if they don't want to lose even more money down the line. It is severly impacting them. Or maybe, they could try better negotiation techniques and aim higher than 2%. I would help the company out for sure.

  • I think a negotiation should be better. For example, asking if like a 3.2% increase would be better than a 5.1% increase. I think they should increase wages, if they are able. I wouldn't help the company because I wouldn't want to be seen as meddling in private affairs in my public office.

  • They should negioate with the people, 5.1% is a huge increase when it coes to economics. that could potentionaly be billions of dollars for them. I would advise but not help. Private company private issues.
