Matt Lauer Investigation Expands

Two days ago, Matt Lauer was fired from NBC News because of sexual harassment allegations. Today, all staff members received an update of the investigation. NBC News Chief, Andrew Lack tells all the staff members that "no matter how painful", they all need to speak up and "raise any concerns you have about inappropriate conduct you have experienced or observed." As soon as NBC was informed about the behavior Lauer was fired very quickly. NBC is going to continue to have small informal meetings to discuss issues like this. They also request other places to do the same. After being fired only hours later, two other women came forward and said that the same thing happened to them, one of them in 2001.

Questions:

1) If you were one of the women, would you have spoken up right away? Or wait to keep his job safe?

I would most definitely speak up and tell the staff right away because I wouldn't know if this was only happening to me or if it's happened to numerous other people.  And I wouldn't want my coworkers to have to keep it to themselves any longer if they already were.

2) If you have ever watch NBC News, did you ever expect this kind of behavior from Matt Lauer?

I personally never expected it. Matt Lauer always seemed to do his job very well making me think he was a very genuine person and wouldn't ever do anything to hurt anyone mentally or his job.

  • Well done Lauren!

  • I would speak up and get him fired because nobody deserves to be sexually assaulted, so I would be happy if I got him fired so that he couldn't do that to anybody else in the work place at least. I don't really watch the news very much, so I don't know who that is.

    • I agree with you Enya, he most definitely deserves to be fired for what he did so that nobody else gets sexually assaulted. I would be happy if he got fired so I wouldn't have to see him everyday after what he did.

  • 1. Definitely I would talk and I would tell my boss, I do not mind being fired because I could not work in the same place as this man.

    2. I did not know who this man was and I have never seen NBC.

  • I think I would speak out tbh because you wouldn't want this to happen to any other women. This is something to make people aware of because it could continue and get worse . We do watch NBC News and I wouldnt have thought anything of him doing this, nothing seemed like this.

    • I agree, speaking out would be the best option to protect my self and co-workers for the future. I hope from women coming out here, other women around the country speak up if it's happened to them as well.

  • On the first question it depends. If you knew this person as a friend and especially a close friend it would be way harder on the question if you want to get them fired or to keep their job safe. Personally I would no matter what report these issues no matter what the consequences for him may be. Personally I have NEVER watched NBC News so I do not know of the man that is spoken of. I wouldn't know what to think on rather he would or wouldn't do this.

    • You are right, if you were close to the person it would be hard to turn him in for harassing you.  But yes, I would want to report it for sure no matter the consequences.

  • If I were one of the women then I would've most likely come forward because nobody should have to go to work worrying about if she's going to be harassed that day or not. I have never watched NBC News because I don't watch the news so I don't know if I'd expect this behavior from him.

    • I agree, I would want to definitely speak up so nobody close to me has to go through what I did. Exactly I would want him out of there so I'm not scared to go to work everyday.
