On Wednesday, February 22nd a man named  Adam Purinton walked into an Missouri Applebee's and admited to the bartender that he had commited murder a few hours prior to him coming to the Applebee's. The shootings happened at Austin's Bar and Grill in the Kansas suburb of Olathe where Purinton shot and killed two people. The bartender at Applebee's checked the news to see if there was actually a shooting, and upon confirmation of the shooting called the police.

1. If you where the Bartender, how would you react in this situation?

2. Why do you think that Purinton would admit these murders to a bartender at Applebee's?

My Responses

1. I would definitely call the police and keep the man in my sight at all times, I wouldn't have even checked the news to confirm his story because this man could be dangerous.

2. I would have to say that I think he admitted it because he's maybe mentally ill, or he just had a guilty conscious about it.

  • Good job overall. Your summary is a bit brief and all of your comments were done on the same day.

  • If I was that bartender I would first check to see if he was telling the truth then I would immediately call the police and make sure that I knew where Purinton was at all times and wouldn't let him leave the building. I think Purinton admitted to the murders because he probably felt extremely guilty about it and had to tell someone just to get it off his chest.

    • i wouldn't even check to see if he was telling the truth, because even if he isn't telling the truth, he is obviously not mentally stable. I think that he admitted the murders because he has a mental illness.

  • I would have called the police if I believed he was telling the truth. Maybe because he just felt that he needed to or wanted to tell somebody what he did.

  • I would definitely notify the proper authorities. I would also make sure that he was in my sight all the time to make sure nothing fishy was going to go down. I think he probably admitted it because it was like The Tell Tale Heart thing where it just drove him nuts until he had to spill the secret.
  • I would be shocked and confused at first. When someone like this commits a crime sometimes a shred of their conscience shows up and makes them tall or they are overwhelmed with so much excitement that they want to get caught. These people are very unstable and will do almost anything to play a game.

  • I would be a little nervous and just try and stay calm. I would make sure that Purinton didn't try and do anything at the restaurant. I would also let other employees know whats going on and just to keep a eye out. Purinton probably felt guilty for this and he needed to tell someone.

    • I think that I would be nervous as well, so I would have someone call the cops while I keep an eye on him that way he doesn't do anything to hurt anyone. I think that I would also tell the other employees, that way they can help me keep an eye on him. I don't think that he really felt guilty, I think that it has more to do with him possibly having a  mental illness.

  • I would try to stay calm, so I wouldn't alarm anyone in the restaurant or provoke him. Then I would have another employee keep an eye on him, then go into a back room and call the police from there, or vice versa. I think he admitted to these murders because his conscience was so guilty, he had to tell someone.

    • This is also a really good idea! Having an employee watch him while you would go to call the police. It's great because then you wouldn't alarm anyone or him for that matter.
