I Agree With John McCain

Sen. John McCain, a Republican from Arizona, has been battling brain cancer for the better part of this year. Long known as a maverick on the hill, Sen. McCain was the Republican nominee for President in 2008, and helped sink Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare in 2017. Gina Haspel, nominee for CIA Director, has been controversially involved in torture methods throughout her tenure. Senator McCain had announced his opposition sometime last week. McCain was tortured in Vietnam while serving in the Army. A White House aide, Kelly Sadler said of Sen. McCain, "It doesn't matter, he's dying anyways." Firstly, McCain still retains his seat in the Senate, and two, he is free to express any opinion that he likes. As if this weren't enough, a second official, this time a retired Lt. General from the Air Force said, "Torture worked on McCain. That's why they call him 'Songbird John'." McCain never revealed anything to the Vietnamese and was a true war hero, and this kind of talk demeans him as a person and senator.

1: What should happen to the people that said these comments?

I believe they should be fired from any official position, because in their current capacity they are representing the White House, and if they don't agree with those, they should get rid of them from the White House.

2: Should either President Trump or Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders apologize on behalf of the White House?

Yes, I believe that it is appropriate as Press Secretary that Sarah Sanders apologize on behalf of the White House. Trump himself has said that McCain is not a war hero, so I feel like an apology would make everyone feel better.

  • There should definitely be some apologies made to McCain soon because he is close to dying anytime now. I would hope that they would want to end their life with McCain on a high note. I don't know if the entire White House itself needs to apologize because it wasn't everyone in the White House that said that.

  • this person should apologize...

  • The people that made these comments definitely deserve more backlash than they are getting. I do not know the context of these comments, but even if they were made as jokes, it is still very unprofessional and an apology is necessary.

  • There should be some serious backlash... McCain wheter he will die tomorrow or in a year is a person with their own life and no one is going to live forever, so the statement that kelly Sadler made could really be used against her and every other person on earth.

  • 1) I think they should be fired because they are representing the White House and they are saying thosse things.

2)Yes, they should because it is the White House. Trump should apologize for what he has said.

  • Yes, I think that it is right for Sarah Sanders to apologize for the White House. Hurtful things were said and so I think an apology would make everything better for everyone.

  • I think they should be fired from there position because they are representing the White House, and if they don't agree with it, they should fire of them from there job. Keep the comment to yourself.

  • 1. They should be dealt some swift justice by losing their positions. These men that fought in the Vietnam war deserve your upmost respect for what they had to go through and anyone that treats them like this deserve to loe everything.

    2. Yes Trump should

  • I believe they should be fired because senetors are still higher up then them and are technically their superior.

    Yes.

  • I think these people sould be serving some kind of punishment for making rude and unnneeded commnets. I think the she is the best suited to give an apology on behalf of the Whtie House and staff for the drama caused in the incident.
