I-85 Collapses in Fire

Thursday around 7 o'clock in the evening, the busy city of Atlanta suffered a serious mishap. Atlanta's I-85 fell to the ground. A fire with an unknown cause lead the incident. It is going to need months of repair in order to get back to where it was before the fire. There will need to be repair in both directions of traffic. There are nearly 220,000 cars that drive through this spot on a daily basis. The crumble of the bridge is going to lead to a terrible transportation crisis. Investigators are still trying to solve how the fire was started, yet still have guesses of what it could of been. Luckily there were no injuries in this tragedy.

Questions:

What would you do if you took this route everyday?

What would you do if you were driving while this happened?

My answers:

If I-85 was my daily route, I would look for the next quickest route to get to my destination. If this happened while I was driving I would probably panic and scared. I would not know what to do in this situation, and follow what other cars were doing. I would then be scared to drive on the interstate again, because of fear it may happen again.

  • Great job Lauren!

  • If it was my daily route I would take a day off and let all the confusion happen before I have to deal with it and then find the best new route. If I were driving I would probably be dead.

  • I would try to get a new route so that i can still get to my work everyday! if i was driving when this happened i would be shocked and scared because i wouldn't know if i should still get to work or not. I think that this couldn't have just happened on its own it had to be on purpose because it would have to get dumped in something like gasoline or something!

    • If I was driving when this happened I would also freak out. I would not know what to do, and just follow others. I agree with you, this could not have happened by itself, something had to of caused it (probably not on the interstate). If they have not figured the cause out, it was probably on purpose.

  • If I took this route every day, I guess that I would have to try to find another route to take. I would stop immediately and call the police so they can get firefighters/EMT to the scene as quickly as possible to help those who may be hurt or trapped in their vehicles.

  • If this was my normal route I would probably panic a little bit and try to find another route. If this happened while I was driving I'd probably scream and be really scared because I would not know what to do.

    • I would also panic to find a new route because I am so used to my normal route. Getting used to a new route will take a while, but they will need to take that new route for many months. I would scream as well and have no idea what to do.

  • 1. I would make an easier plan to get tehre fster. I would try my hardest to leave earlier to get to my destination on time.

    2. I would probably do what ever the safest thing to do was. I would escape somehow.

    • I would also want to find an easier/faster route and not be in traffic. I would have to leave early, because more people are going to need to take the same routes which will make mornings/evenings slower.

  • I would find the quickest way to get to where I need to go. I have no idea what I would do in this situation.
