Facebook had a feature that targeted Anti-Semitic users.

Facebook had an ad feature that allowed Advertisers to target people who put things like "Jew Hater" in their education or employment field. Facebook would immediately have these transfer to the ad platform as categories that could be used for targeting by advertisers. The feature was originally meant to allow companies to direct ads based on users education or employment. Facebook removed the feature Friday. They said they would also prevent Advertisers from targeting users based on their education and Employment field until they have the right processes in place. Facebook also described the amount of people who put anything in there not related to the field boxes as "incredibly low." Facebook also admits that they sold over $100,000 worth of ads to a Russian Troll farm.

Would you have released the feature if it would target Anti-Semitic users? Explain?

Have any of you every put something ridiculous or not related to the text field like some people did?

I wouldn't have, because it hasn't been fully tested and it would later come back and harm the company so it wouldn't be complete.

I have mainly something like the actual name of the text field for example; Education [Education], something similar like that nothing too ridiculous just replacing the empty box with its text field name.

  • Good job overall but all of your comments were done on the same day.

  • If I knew that a feature would target anti-Semitic users, I would not release the feature. This kind of discrimination and hate should not be promoted and encouraged. I have never filled out the text field with stupid or non-related things.

    • If I knew that a feature would target anti-Semitic users, I would also not release the feature. I'm not sure why an inappropriate feature like that would even be created in the first place, especially by a company like Facebook. I don't fill out a text field with stupid or non-related things either. I don't see the point in spending time to do something useless such as that.

  • I have not put anything unrelated in a text field like that before because it's just another form of lying. I wouldn't have released it because it could hurt the company.

  • No, because that's terrible, everyone is the same. I don't understand why people are so racist these days. No, I haven't but I know a lot of my friends have posted those types of things.

  • I wouldn't because it hasn't been fully tested yet and it could do something that will later come back and haunt the company. I don't really comment a lot on social media because the less you are exposed to the internet is better.

  • I would not, because the purpose of being on Facebook is to communicate with my friends and my family, i have never put anything on my profile.

I believe that sharing less information as possible it is a better than exposing my identity to others.

  • I would because it could stop people from being rude and hurting people but at the same time everyone has their own opinions so I honestly do not really no what I would do. I have put stuff in comments that have nothing to do with what the image or video is about and I was younger and it was kind of dumb and I regret it now so I think it could be a good and bad thing

  • I would have these people need to be called out for what they are putting on social media. I have put something quite ridiculous on social media before and completely regretted it. It wasn't a good idea I should of just kept to myself and not of said anything that could hurt someone verbally.

  • No because people can do what they want and deserve to say their opinion. I never post things on Facebook and when I do it is not bad things that will start things.
