Cleveland Indians Take The Logo Down

Last monday it was anounced that as of 2019 the Wohoo Logo will be taken off the jerseys of the baseball team. In recent years they have shifted into using just a C, so by allowing the logo to stay until 2019 it was meant to give the fans and the team a chance to transition. Even though a lot of their fans have an attachment to the logo, the club agreed that it was inapropriate and needed to be removed. The selective sale of the Cheif Wohoo gear is still going to be in commission, for fear of other parties taking advantage of the logo as well as losing the trademark. After 2019 the logo will cease to be available to anyone, but will be available to purchase as a souvenir in the statium shops and secluded retailers. This gives them the ability to still profit from the sale. The Oneida Nations VP are hoping that the change in logo will affect fans' purchasing decisons.use this copy chief wahoo The MLB says they don't think its unacceptable to have the logo on the field, so it should be unacceptable to wear it in the statium.

QUESTIONS:

1. Do you think they should remove the logo from the jerseys? Why or Why not?

2. Do you think they should make the removal date sooner or later? Why?

MY ANSWERS:

1. For me I dont really think it matters whether they keep it or not. If some people want it, then they should keep it. Maybe do both if they could that would be great to satisfy everyone.

2. I think that the removal date is good to let everyone adjust because if they do it right away then a lot of fans would be upset. If they do it latter, people will still be upset about how long it will take.

  • 1. I understand that they would change their logo, because there can be so many other options for logos.

    2. I think that it is fine because it gives fans a while to appreciate the logo and everything that it stands for. If it were to be sooner than I feel that not everybody would really realize what was about to happen. If they give it more time, more people would recognize them, which could lead to new fans.

  • I don't think they should make a change that has been the logo forever for there team. If people don't like it then they don't have to watch the games that they play in and don't have to wear the logo on shirts.

  • I can see why they want to remove it, and it is their decision. The only thing I don't like is they need to be themselves. If they want the logo, they need to keep it and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to pull up there big boy pants and deal with it.

  • Baseball is suppose to be a fun pass time if something like a logo is being problematic I believe it should be changed so the sport can be enjoyed by everyone. I believe that they put a lot of thought into the removal date to were they are giving everyone enough time to change their logos and get new uniforms.

  • I dont think they should change their logo mainly because its been their logo for a long time. Unless they wanted to change it I'd say they wouldnt need to. I do understand why they are removing the logo to prevent possible problems in the fan base and throughout the league though.

  • I understand how this can be seen as racist, but I don't think the creators of the logo were meaning it to be. It was probably made a long time ago when it was more acceptable. If they're going to get rid of the logo they should just do it and get it over with. There's no need to drag it out to make the most profit.

  • I agree with Aimie, if this is causing many problems it should probably be handled and fixed. This is so little to make anything out of. I also think fans would like the reveal date just so they get excited about the change and continue to support the team.

  • If it is causing problems, it should be removed especially if it can be offensive to some people. The removal date is probably fine the way it is because if they have been able to keep it this long without many issues why not keep it for year or so.

  • I think they should remove the logos from the jerseys because it's kind of insulting to those of native american background. I don't really care myself but I know that others are more sensitve to that kind of thing. I think the removal date is fine, as long as they are sticking to their plan and not pushing off the date further and further and having time to transition isn't a bad idea.
