Are small Farmers dying the the USA?

Over the past years small farmers have been crushed by the price of their goods going there by the floor they have gone down by almost 50%. With their prices going down the price that it takes to produce their product is going through the roof. Leaving them razor thin margins also leave many if not almost all farmers with debt. The avg small family farm is 250k in debt. While a large operation is in 1.8M in debt. Leaving both in large amounts of debt with producing costs continuing to rise and the price of their goods not rising at all. Small farmers who are in the crop industry are taking a huge hit as all of the land for sale is selling at such a high price  that only the large sized farmer has the money to buy the land and it’s so competitive that it's almost impossible for them to expand. This is causing big farmers to get bigger and small farmers to get smaller and crushing the medium sized farmers too.

I think the small farmer is slowly but surely dying and that families won't be able to survive off of 300 acres and a couple animals. I think that large farms will take over the industry creating a monopoly and control the price of grain and ultimately food too. I think that we need to try and make sure that small farmers can survive and flourish in today's agriculture

Do you think that it is possible for a small family farm to survive in 2024?

Do you think that large farms are taking over?

How do you think farmers could get out of debt?

    • I agree with you when you said "I think that its possible for a small family farm but not as likely to find sucsess as the bigger and more profitable farms" i agree with this i think that its harder for them to make a profit in this ecom and be profitable

  • No, I don't think it's going to be very easy for small family farms to survive because all of the bigger and more profitable farms are taking over the farming industry. Large farms are taking over and the amount of debt they have is not helping at all.
