Are Books Better than the Movies?

Are the books better than the movies? Over the years there have been many good books that were turned into movies. Although they usually are never exactly like the books. A survey of teenagers showed that a fourth would read the book, and less than an eighth would read the book and watch the movie. It shows that most teenagers would rather just watch the movie.

There are many advantages to reading the book rather than just watching the movie. Reading the book allows your mind to be creative. You are able to interpret the plot as you like and imagine what the characters look like. Books can give the reader more details because they aren’t limited to a certain amount of time. Books are also proven to enhance your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

While there are many advantages to reading, there are many advantages to watching the movie. Reading is an individual thing, but watching a movie doesn’t have to be. You can watch a movie with your friends and family. While reading an entire book multiple days, watching the movie will help you understand the entire storyline in about two hours. Some people also like to actually see what is happening because it helps them understand it better or even remember it better.

One thing readers don’t like about the movies’ based on books is that they are always different. So why are the movies different from the books. One main reason movies are different is because movies don’t allow enough time for all the details and plot that are in the book. The way books are set to narrate certain things to move the story along, but movies don’t have that. So they are changed to move the story along without the narratives. Another reason is the screenwriters don’t want people to have the same experience twice, so they change it to make a new experience for people.

I think that the books are better than the movies because I like how a lot more can happen in the books and it's in a lot more detail. I would also rather read the book before watching the movie for those reasons. I think that it's fine if little details change in the movie as long as the story is basically still the same. Although I have seen a movie that had an added element that isn’t in the book and I don’t think they should do that.

Do you think the books are better or the movies?

Would you rather read the book then watch the movie, or watch the movie then read the book?

Do you think movies should be exactly like the books or is it good that there are some differences?

  • Personally i like to watch movies rather than read books, but most of the time books have the better detail that movies do not. Hoveer i think that most people would rather have the visual imput than have to imagine it while reading a book.

    • I think that some authors make it very easy to visualize what is happening because they can add so much detail, but a lot of people would rather have an easier way to see the scene than having to invision it themself. I think that is why so many people like movies better despite having less detail or even less scenes.

  • I prefer the books over the movies because books can fit in way more scenes and provide more context on what each character Is feeling and why. It's also a lot easier to get immersed in books than in movies for me. Movies can be too brief to really show the true depth of the story too.

    • I also would rather read the book over watch the movie. I love that there is more to know about the story in the book and in my experience I have read quite a few books that had terrible movies that I probably would have never watched without having read the book.

  • I think movies are way better than reading books. It lets you see the emotions and other things you couldn't read or visualize.

    • Sometimes when you are reading a book, they way a character is feeling gets lost and it can change the whole meaning of what they are doing, saying, or even thinking. In a movie though, you can easily see what the character is feeling by how they sound or look.

  • I think movie are better because you cna relax and watch them and listen instead of reading the book and trying to make a picture in your head. Books are good if you cant watch the movie

    • I think readin makes your mind work a little more because it's up to you to be able to picture what is happening to really enjoy a book. So definitely more relaxing to just sit and watch a movie. They have made ways to let you relax a little more, not as much as movies, like audio books.

  • I think that the movies are better because they are much shorter and you can watch it with friends while reading you have to do it by yourself. I think the movies based on the book don't have to be exactly like the book they just have to have most of it exactly like the book.

    • I think being able to watch a movie with friends is a huge benefit because it just makes it so much more enjoyable. I think some people have tried to make reading more of a group thing with book clubs and things like that but it's not the same.
