Are Athletes getting paid too much? People think that those who play sports shouldn't be paid more than those paid to teach athletes. A yearly salary for a teacher ranges from 37k - 77k, on the other hand, the athletes they are teaching are getting paid way more. Also, people such as firefighters, police officers, and people in the military are paid nowhere close to professional athletes. They are the ones saving the country but are hardly being paid as much as athletes are. After most athletes get paid and their contract is almost over. They start asking for more and more money. Then when they haven't been paid when they were expected to be paid. They start playing worse and being the whole team down in a team sport, such as football. If a quarterback isn't getting paid, they start playing worse which equals the rest of the team playing worse.
Then after they get paid more and more. Then end up saying they don't have enough money to support their families even though average people working normal jobs are getting paid way less than them. Most contracts come with guaranteed pay. This means no matter what, if the athlete doesn't play at all, they still get paid. Most jobs require them to work to what is expected and if they don't they get fired and there is no guaranteed money they will get.
Another reason why athletes are overpaid is that they have ever used/taken performance-enhancing substances or drugs. They usually just make a bunch of money that pays off the fine and pays off the audience. Some kids and some adults look up to most athletes. If they see or hear about their role model doing drugs that improve their game might teach the audience that these are ok and they should be them. When they are bad for the game and bad for your health.
The other side is that many think they aren’t overpaid, many believe that these athletes put their bodies on the line with the risk of getting seriously hurt. Studies show that 90% of athletes report an injury related to their sport. Some people that play no-contact sports, such as golf, are making anywhere from $50-$150 million. Some athletes believe that they put everything they had to get into the pros. So they think once they get into the pros they should be paid more money than they ever were anywhere else. But in the end, I believe that athletes are way overpaid and jobs/workforces such as teachers and emergency services should be paid more because they educate people that go into professional sports. And some people even save lives and put their life on the line just so people can enjoy sports
Do you think athletes are getting paid too much?

Good topic choice and summary Landyn! Be sure to include sources to back up what you say. The issue is you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points. Posted one day late.
I do not believe that athletes are getting paid too much. After all, we are the people who watch them, and they provide entertainment for us. Another reason for my beliefs is the determination and time spent to reach the professional level. For example, in the NBA, very few players are good enough to get paid anything.
I do not think that athletes are getting paid too much. I think that the money they earn is well desearved. They are professional athletes for a reason and this is their job. Most of the athletes don't do any other type of work beside brand deals which also bring in money aswell.
I personally do not think that professional athletes are getting paid to much. I think they deserve however much they are currently being paid, because they are the professional in their sport. Many people watch and attend their games as a result.
I think that althetes are not getting paid too much because they are professionals or they are the best at their sport. Also I think that if more people watch the sport or their sport is making more money then more money should go to the players.
I think that its not alot because as many injurys and other things that the players get. Also how much training that they have to go through to be able to play or be good at the sport they are doing. Its also based on their contract with the team.
Yes, professional athletes should be getting paid a lil less than what there making now. It is unfair to other people that work way harder than thim and barly sratch by. like if someone was working at a gas station 18 hours a day they would be making way less and still barly have enough to pay bill. comparing that to what an athlete makes just isnt fair at all. Same goes with our police, military, and fire fighters go throught way more dangers and risk there lifes to save others and even then it comes nothing close to the yearly budget of one professional athletes.
I think that it can vary. Of course it may depend on the althete but some of the althetes out there are making big money in which it can get a little out of hand. Although, let's say they retire, then they are going to have to use that many to make a living unless they decide to get a regular job.
I think that athletes are being paid just a little to much. I get that there playing for big television broadcasts and for people around the world but do they really need to make 500 milliopn over 10 years. I just think that it a little to much.
Professional athletes are paid so much because we live in a capitlistic society. While teachers and other government jobs are paid in a socilistic way by the government, pro-athletes are paid by private businesses. These private businesses are able to make billions and have less things to pay for than the government. So no, I don't think they are paid too much.
