CNN told the media reporter Brian Stelter, that CNN’s “New Day” program last Wednesday that the National Rifle Association and gun owners don’t want to tell the truth about guns.

Of course not, the media dosent talk about the gun cultures in amercia. the good and the bad. The good cultre of gun owners consist of "freedom loving gun rights culture that upholds the responsible use of guns for hunting, sport and self-defense. The other is the crinimal that "theives in places where the goverment restricts rights. Not knowing the diffrences in in these types of people has lead to news airtcles saying that all gun owners are bad people. Not all gun owners are bad people and use there guns for bad things.

"In the most recent mass murder last week at a Florida high school, where 14 students and three adults were killed, the FBI failed in its responsibility – not guns or gun owners. That was hardly an anomaly. In many other cases a murderer should have been denied legal access to guns, but the bureaucracy failed us." -NRA

Questions

1.)Do you believe there are two diffrent types of gun owners?

I do think that there are two diffrent types of gun owners, the sport and self-defense or hunters and the murders. the hunteers want nothing to do with the murrderders they just want it to stop like lots of amercian citizens.

2.) Do you believe that the media is trying to make all gounowners look bad?

I do think that in some was that the media is trying to make all guns and gun owners look like killers not knowing there are two diffrent types of gun owners.

  • Be sure to make the summary more of your own. It is mostly a quote. Summarize the story. Also be sure to reply to more student comments.  You only replied to one and it's worth 20 points.

  • I believe that there is actually more than two different types of gun owners, however they can be spilt up into two categories, for the sake of simplicity lets say the categories are just 1. Reasonable and 2. Unreasonable. So within the first category you've got the people who only own a gun for self-defense/protection of there families, and you've got the people that own a gun soley for hunting/sports purposes. However, within the secound category you've got people that own, and intend to use guns for personal gain, intimidation/terrorizing of others, illegal activites, and cruel/evil acts. Not all gunowners are bad, infact the majority are just average american citizens that unfortunately get the effects, and sometimes even the blame for tragic/horrible events like school shootings.

It all really depends on which media site you look at. I feel that most "mainstream" media outlets (Right, and Left) really could careless about the actual topic of gun control, and the right to have guns, etc. I get that impression because of the lack of effort to tell any story, basically anytime a tragic/horrible event happens they point the blame at guns, then people that own guns, 9 times out of 10 its negative. They never actually give any effort to try and get anything done/changed (In the right way) even if its just getting a movement started. I feel there focus is mainly on ratings, after that its just on whatever bias opinions they have/want you to believe.

  • Yes, I do believe there are two differnt types of gun owners. One side for which guns are used for defense, sport, etc. and the other is used for crime. I believe the media does try to make it seem like all gun owners are bad because of a shotting, of which the criminal should have never been able to get access to guns to start with.

  • Yes, there are many types of gunowners. There are people that want to protect there family with a gun in case of an emerengcy. Then there are the hunters. Then there are killers that don't care about anyone and they have a gun for that reason. There are many more types of people that own guns. Um yes, all I see anymore  "guns aren't safe" In my opinion yes there are some gunowners that shouldn't be able to have a gun. Then there are some that should.

  • I think that there is different types of gun owners, with the majority of the population being the self-defense or hunting side. I think that the media is trying to make everyone with guns look really bad. What they don't tell you is that there is around 300 million guns in the U.S. and if everyone with guns was bad, we would all be dead by now.

  • Yes, I do believe there are two different types of gun owners. The ones who want a gun for protection and feel safer having that possession in their homes, and the others who aren't mentally stable and use guns for a bad purpose. I think it depends on the type of media, but yes, most are trying to make all gun owners look bad.

  • It's not a matter of whether or not there are two different types of gun owners. In fact what kind of people own guns isn't even the main problem. And if people who own guns want this brought to light then they should be bringing it up. Actually defend their stance on things instead of sticking to “guns don't kill people, people do”. The other side is expected to give facts so is your side. Are you aware that before Gorge Bush lifted the ban on assault weapons in 2000 school shooting where down 37%? Odd European counties put a ban on guns after a mass shooting. The Columbine High School massacre was in 1999 yet just a year later we did the exact opposite of what they did, and we've had a lot more incidents as a result. Did you know that as of February 15th there had been 18 school shootings this year alone? Do you understand why people what an assault riffle like the ar 15 banned? The news is not doing so. You have to look at other scores other than FOX news and the NRA and if you feel that CNN is only giving a bias view pleas provide some facts to prove so. I watch CNN and I fell that they give a far view of both sides unlike FOX and the NRA. Are you aware the RNA is no longer supported by gun wonder, bu the major portion of their funds comes from guns and weapon manufacturers. The NRA intern pushes to get people to buy more gun so that the manufacturers get more money. This is not in support of the gun owners. As a result there are quite a few less gun owners that there were 20 years ago but each of those gun owners own substantially more guns per person. Infant there are meany users who have as meany as 30-50 guns in their position, how can you contribute this to just being a sports man or hunter? The ar 15 which is the riffle in question gives no sporting or hunting advantages over another on the market, but it the one that is predominantly pushed by gun manufacturers. It is nothing more than the civilian version of the military riffle.

  • I defiantly think there are different types of gun owners; not everyone who owns a gun is bad or is going to shoot up a school. There are crazy people who have guns, but not everyone who has a gun is crazy. The media is defiantly trying to make gunowners look bad, especially since the last school shooting. It all comes down to a difference of opinions.

  • I also believe that there are two types of gun owners. There are the ones that use them for the reason we have guns and then there are the people that use them for cruel acts. I believe that there is some things in the news that are a little outfetched.

  • Yes I think there are two different types of gun owners. There's those who are responsible and those who aren't. Unfortunately not all the irresponsible people are caught by the system, so they are allowed to obtain guns. I think they are to an extent especially considering almost all of the gunowners around here are responsible with their guns and use them for productive purposes.
