Week of May 15th-19th

Monday- 1970's project: Singers- Queen, Beatles, AC-DC, kiss, the beach boys, led zeppelin. America pie by don McLean, T.N.T. AC/DC, rock and roll all nite, bohemian rhapsody, i will survive, stairway to heaven. movies of the 1970's: star wars, rocky, jaws, grease, the godfather, Monty python the holy grail, blazing saddles.  Famous people of the 1970's: Clint Eastwood: actor in the outlaw, Burt Reynolds: actors in smokey and the bandit, Steven Spielberg- director, Francis Ford Coppola-director, Sylvester Stallone actor/director. TV shows- M.A.S.H., Brady bunch, bonanza, hogan's heroes, the Muppet show. Games- pong, asteroids, space invaders, arcades were starting to get popular, Atari, Magnavox, odyssey, and RCA. Sports in the 70's: in the 1972 Olympics terrorists invaded and killed 11 people, jack Nicklaus was dominating golfer, Muhammad Ali dominated boxing, the Cincinnati reds win 4 world series, the Steelers won 3 super bowls, hank Aaron broke babe Ruth's home run record. fashion- flamboyant, bright colors, tunics, culottes, and robes, cowl neck sweaters, men wore velour shirts, jumpsuits, go-go boots, and colored jeans. Inventions: floppy disks, hacky sack, bar code, disposable lighter, post it notes, cellphone. Politics- president was Richard Nixon, 37, 1969-1974, senator from California. The Water Gate scandal: Watergate building for rich people and there were 4 guys who were breaking in to apartments and wiretapping them so that Nixon could beat them all, after this Nixon started destroying evidence and started giving people hush money. Amendments: equal rights amendment- equality of rights for all genders, the congress has the power to enforce appropriate legislation the provisions of this article, the amendment shall take effect two years after the date for ratification. 26th- prohibits the denial of the right of US citizens eighteen years of age or older to vote. 

1980's- music: famous artists- Michael Jackson, bon jovi, George Michael, Madonna, prince, cher, aresmith AC-DC. Tops songs- eye of the tiger, careless whisper, girls just want to have fun, i wanna dance with somebody, mtv started on August 1st 1981 by showing music videos at all times, the 80's was the golden age of the music videos, CDS vs, Vinyl. Movies: indiana jones, terminator, gremlins, beatle juice, ghost busters, who framed roger rabbit, Ferris bullers day off, back to the future, top gun. TV Shows- ALF (alien life form), the A-Team, cheers, miami vice, golden girls, knight rider, magnum P.I., full house, SNL, MacGyver. video games- the golden age of arcade video games- PAC-man, super Mario bros, tetris, donkey Kong, frogger, centipede, galaga, the legen of Zelda, Duck Hunt. Sports- Joe Montana, Dan marino, Jerry rice, magic Johnson, Larry bird, Michael Jordan, Barry bond, BO Jackson, mike Tyson. 

Tuesday- 1980's:  Presidents- Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980, stood firm against the USSR to end the cold war, cut taxes, rebuilt the armed forces, Freed U.S. prisoner in Iran, martin Luther king hr day, George H. W. Bush elected in 1989. African american firsts: 1980 nanie mines graduated the naval academy, 1982 Michael Jackson releases thriller, Roscoe Robinson four star army general, 1983- Guy S. Blu-ford in space on the challenger, Vanessa Williams is crowned miss america, 1986- Oprah Winfrey TV show, mike Tyson defeats other guy quickly, 1987 the first African CEO Reginald Lewis billionaire, aretha franklin introduced to rock and roll hall of fame, 1988 doug Williams win super bowl, 1989 Douglas wilder elected governor in the US, Art shell becomes raiders head coach. 1980- eqal employment opportunity commission prohibit sexual harassment, Sandra day o' Conner first women supreme court justice, sally ride first women in space, geraldine ferrera runs for vice president, the challenger explodes, homosexuals got more rights, gay games, on talk shows, and had special communities. Average prices-... Fashion and Fads- tanned more, bigger hair, wild hair, tons of makeup, nail polish, eye shadows. Boys had the greaser look and still had jeans, bad boy look, the girls wore jeans and long sleeve shirts, frosted jeans. Fads- boom boxes, break dancing, Hair spray, converse, cabbage patch kids, care bears. Space Shuttle: first flight was in April 12, 1981 and could carry 7 astronauts at a time, hovered around the world, put the US ahead in the space race. one black man got arrested and no one else could come in the court house to watch the trial. Iran Contra scandal: in 1979 american embassy in Iran stormed, 52 Americans hostage, america creates weapon embargo on them, 2nd term of Reagan administration, 7 american citizens were hostages in Lebanon, weapons were traded for the 7 hostages, scandal is exposed in 1986, no major consequences for Reagan. We secretly gave the weapons in exchange for the hostages. Mount St. Helen's eruption- erupted may 18th, 1980, killed 57 people, caused. Reagan assassination attempt: march 30th 1981 Ronald Reagan and 3 others were shot, john hinckley Jr. tried to impress Jodie foster, press secretary James Brady died of shot wound in 2014, hinckley found not guilty by reason of insanity. Vietnam memorial opens in DC- opened in 1982, founded by Jan C Scruggs, maya lin won design competition, controversy, has over 58,000 Vietnam names. Exxon Valdez oil spill- the ship hit prince williams sound's reef in Alaska, occurred in 1989, spilled 10.8 million galls of crude oil, convered 1,300 miles of caostline, covered 11,000 square miles. inventions: disposable cameras, space shuttle, personal computers, macintosh, CDs, high def TV, camcorders, mobile phones, doppler radar. 

1990's: 1990's music- you can't touch this released on January 13, 1990, made by MC hammer, was hip-hop and pop-rap, most successful single. baby one more time released October 23, 1998 genre teen pop, All Start smash mouth released may 4 1999 genre alternative rock and power pop, livin la vida loca- by ricky martin, released on march 23, 1999 genre is Latin pop and dance pop. 

Wednesday-

1990's: Movies- toy story, titanic, forest gump, scream, dumb and dumber, TV shows: the fresh prince of Bel-air: 1900 to 1996, Seinfeld: 1989-1998, friends, that 70's show, family guy, video games: NBA Jam: basketball arcade game, The Legend of Zelda: ocarina of time is an action adventure video game, Super Mario 64- was the 1st super Mario game in 3D, Crash bandicoot- follow crash as he aims to prevent brio and cortex's plan for world domination. 1990's Sports: Michael Jordan he played for the Chicago bulls, 6 time NBA champion, 6 time finals MVP, 4 time MVP, 7 time all star, 2 time all star game MVP, 7 time scoring champion, 7 time all NBA all team. Barry Sander played for Detroit Lions and he was a rushing back. Deon (primetime) Sanders- Dallas Cowboys he was the only athlete to score touchdown and hit a home run in the same week, defensive player. John Elway played for Denver Broncos. Evander Holyfield professional boxing. Ken Griffey Jr. played for Seattle Mariners. Fashion air jordans, overalls with the strap down, starter jackets, backwards hat, Coogi. Fads- Beanie babies, bleached hair, pokemon, roller blades, inventions: gameboy, PS, the internet, N64- was nintendo's 3rd home console 64 bit, tickle me elmo, DVDs, Text message, modern washer and dryer, presidential elections: bill clinton bs George W Bush- Clinton won. in 1966- bill clinton vs robert Dole- clinton won. hubble telescope launched in the 90's, collapse of the soviet union, operation desert storm where the US invaded Kuwait to free iraq, official end of Cold War in 1992, in 1994 Nelson Mandela elected leader of South Africa. in Britain mad cow disease hit them in 1996. Clinton was impeached, killing spree at columbine high school in 1999, basic facts. Bills/act- americans disabilities Act (ADA), olders worker benefit protection act (OWBPA),  The international Union UAW vs Johnson controls. Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski. michael jackson molestation scandal.
