Semester Test Blog (May 21, 2015)

1. People started to buy a lot of things with "borrowed money". This caused the economy and the stock market to hit a wall. People would sell their stocks in large amounts in order to get a lot of money. The businesses could've been doing bad, and this caused the companies to lose profit while the stocks raised in amount of money.

2. People lost homes, many committed suicide. Teens dropped out of school and hopped onto trains to find jobs in different towns nearby (sent the money back to their families). People used coupons to get the supplies they needed.

3. The government passed Roosevelt's New Deal. The New Deal helped bring people out of Depression. Giving people jobs helped families to slowly get out of debt.

4. Hitler fed lies to England and France (they knew about the lie the moment it left his lips), and was given a chance to gain back land that he "thought" he needed. Japan invaded China for resources (Japan was in Depression during this attack)

5. Allies won because of atomic bombs, Hitler trying to invade Soviet Union, Japan tried to force the US to trade resources with them again. Italy gave up after they realised that they couldn't win against the US.

6. It's a armistice race between the Soviets and the US. (Soviets always tried to one-up the US a lot) Soviets tried to take over Asia and part of Europe. US feared that communism would spread over into the country, and it was already affecting us in a domino theory. The Soviets goal was one-up the US in nuclear weapons and to spread communism. The US goal was to stop the spread of communism.

7. North wanted to take-over the South... the two parts of the nation were split at the 38th parallel line... North wanted one person in charge and the South a different person in charge... the US aided the South while the North "tricked" the Soviet Union and China to give them the okay to attack the South... Many villages were burned down and many people were killed and/or raped...

8. Vietnam gained its independence from France at the end of WWII... the French wanted to take back Vietnam... Vietnam was split... after France lost control North Vietnam wanted Communism and the South didn't... the US aided South Vietnam when the North Vietnamese crossed over the 17th parallel line... the fighting went back and forth while the North shipped supplies through a route that travel into Laos and Cambodia... US bombed Laos and Cambodia in order to stop the supply line... South was taken over when US tried to use Vietnamization... North and South were under the command of one leader after the US left...

9. Saudi Arabia invaded Kuwait for the oil-rich land that the country had... US got permission from Iran to be stationed within the country on the border nearest to Kuwait... US was able to successfully invade Kuwait and drove the Arabians out of Kuwait, but not before the Arabians destroyed all of the oil rigs/stations.

9/11- Two airplanes that were hijacked by terrorists were flown into the Twin Towers. Two other flights were hijacked, but weren't successfully flown into their impending targets.

War on Terror- Al Qaeda was said to be behind the attacks on 9/11... US wanted to bring down Al Quaeda, but had to be subtle about it. Al Qaeda was made up of a few different terrorist groups. One of the people in charge of one of the groups was Osama Bin Laden.
