Surviving the Avalanche

Matt Moniz was going hiking on Mount Everest when the Napal Earthquake hit. Him and his friends experienced the earthquake, but since they were on a mountain, it was a deadly avalanche. This snow wall took the lives of 19 people so far, and they are still looking for missing people, not knowing if they are alive or not. Everybody is assuming they didn't make it because of this accident happening last month. Matt and his friends made it by hiding behind a big boulder and they watched the wall of snow make its way on top of them. (there is a video in the link) After the earthquake / avalanche, Matt went out to look for people and bring them to safety. He said how everything he saw was like a movie where everybody is just laying everywhere, still, and not moving. After he got back home, he said that now, he is planning on going back to climbing mountains again.

What would you do if you were in this kind of incident??

Would you ever go climbing again if this happened to you?

  • I would be scared but I think it's very brave to go back and help those people!

  • i would be scared and i wouldnt go again i would be to scared to  risk it

  • I would be scared to have this happen to me. I would climb it again because why not do something you've always wanted to do.

  • I wouldn't go back and climb more mountains, that would be scary

  • It would very scary to have something like this happen. It is hard enough dealing with the cold around but having it all over you. I don't know if I could go climbing again after seeing something so tragic. It would take awhile but I hope this will no longer affect him.

  • I would be scared for my life. Yes You can not let fear take over your life.

  • I would probably start panicking and look around frantically for the people I was with at the time. I would go climbing again, because you shouldn't let something like that scare you from doing something as awesome as mountain climbing.

    • I agree, one thing shouldn't ruin your experience of having freedom and doing your favorite thing because its more than likely that it won't happen again..well..hopefully.

  • I would probably be freaking out with both excitement and horror. It would be incredible but completely terrifying. I would probably climb again after an incident like this because just that sort of freedom and open space can be amazing.

    • I also think that it would be the freedom that kept me climbing. It would just be so open and free!
