Smoking Banned In Mexico.

As of January 15, 2023 Smoking is officially banned in all public places in Mexico. This includes resorts, beaches, and stores, etc. residents are only allowed to smoke in their homes. Mexico has become extremely strict with this law and those found guilty of abusing it have multiple repercussions. These include fines of up to 550$ and even possible jail time. Many are outraged by this decision. The Mexican government has claimed to prevent and control chronic and noncommunicative diseases caused by tobacco. But many have claimed that this with actually have more of a negative impact on Mexican residents. People fear that by banning smoking Mexico will struggle economically. The ban on smoking could cause Mexico to lose a lot of its tourists and money. People also might choose other destinations for their vacation spots if they know they can't smoke.   "It's both good and bad at the same time. It's good because smoking is harmful, but at the same time it's bad because you should be able to do whatever you want with your health," said one resident.10993570901?profile=RESIZE_180x180

People won't come in for drinks anymore because everyone smokes nowadays, everyone wants to smoke. So, our sales are going to go down," one waitress explained.

Overall smoking being banned in Mexico may have Positive affects on people's health but negative effects on Mexican businesses/economy. I personally believe that banning smoking in Mexico is a good thing.

  • I believe that smoking should be banned in the U.S. because of the bad health effects but even if we do ban it there will still be people who smoke because it is a bad addiction and it will be hard to stop.

    • I would also like to see smoking band. BUt yes we have to think about the people who are very addicted.

  • I think that smoking isn't good for anyone because it is harmful for your lungs. Especially since cigarettes are addicting people aren't going to quit and find a way to get them. I think that the banning of smoking in Mexico will affect them negatively because people are still going to find a way to smoke.

  • I personally think that any type of smoking is not good for anybody. I also feel that sometimes smoking is how people cope and "solve" some of their problems, but also you can get help and try to cope in a different and more healthy way. There definitely would be an impact in the US if smoking were to ever get banned. I wouldn't mind if it did get banned because it's really just not a good thing in general, and seems to be getting progressively worse every year or so.

  • I think that this is good for the health of everyone is Mexico. I think that banning smoking is the U.S. would hurt the economy as tobacco is a large factor in the U.S economy. I don't think that the Mexican government would be able to dictate and control this law very easily.

  • I don't think that this law will acutally do anything for smoking in mexico. Drugs are illegal in Mexico yet the country is know for its severe drug markets and cartels. If you make something illegal than you can't regulate it as well if it was legal

    • Thats true. It would make it harder for them to regualte smoking.

  • In my opinion the banning of smoking in Mexico is going to have possitives and negatives. It is going to help the enevironment and people's health but it can affect some businesses and the economy. I do not think that smoiking will be banned from the US.

  • I don't think smoking will be band here becasue a lot of people in the U.S smoke. I can understand why it would be banned in Mexico. It harms you very severly even to death so banning smocking in Mexico is a great idea.

    • I also dont forsee it being band.
