On August 9th, 2014, police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18 year old Micheal Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Shortly after that happened, President at the time Barack Obama requested $263,000,000 for police body cameras and police training.
Since then, over $70,000,000 from different police funding programs have gone towards different law enforcements in 47 different states. Only Maine, Montana, and North Dakota are not funded yet. So far, 36 states are required to wear body cameras.
Some people say that police cameras are a waste of money and take too much funding from the community to waste on cameras. Another con is the safety of the police officers. Since officers have started wearing body cameras, assault on officers have gone up 14% caused by some people not liking being filmed, most being under the influence or mentaly ill.
Some people will also say that they will uphold the citizenship of citizens knowing that they are on camera and will be nicer to the officers. Some other people say they can save lives and are worth the money because there has already been a couple police officers charged with murder and sentanced to jail from footage shown on the cameras. One more positive part of body cameras is that they will lead to less paperwork and more people to plead guilty in court from footage shown on cameras.
I personally think that officers should be required to wear body cameras because I think they can save police officers' lives and lead to more people being nice to them knowing they are on camera. They may be a little costly, but I think they are worth it.
Do you think they should be required to wear body cameras?
Do you think they can save lives?
Do You think they will put the officers lifes at risk?

It does cost a lot of money, however, I think they should be required to wear one to protect themself. It would be easier if they all wore body cams to know exactly what went down at the scene instead of just going off of what people say. I think they do save lives.
Even though it is quite costly, I think they should wear body cameras. They can absolutely save lives. The police officer can't get away with murder and the citizen can't get away if they assaulted the police officer. It shows footage and proof rather thanjust what they heard or claim they saw. It would be much more needed in today's society since police are killing people for thinking they are reaching for a gun when they are really reaching for their license and registration. I don't think this will nut the police officer's life at risk. They are already putting their life at risk with the job. I know that if a police officer pulled me over with a camera on their body, I would feel safer and at ease knowing they can't harass me or talk me into something without getting in trouble for it.
yes i do believe they should wear body cameras then it would be easier to figure out why the poilce offier used that kind of action or reaction and whether it was justified or not.
I believe that body cameras should be required for police officers, not only to keep the officer in check, but to be used as evidence in court if accussed of police brutality.
I agree with you that it could help it court with police brutality, but also help prove the other person wrong to and make then plead guilty if they are pleading inocint.
I think that police officers should be required to wear body cameras, it can would be beneficial for them and for citizens. They might povide useful evidence if needed in court and at the same time I believe it would be more likely for officers and citizens to do the right thing if they knew they were being recorded.
Yes, I feel and believe that police officers should wear body cams. I think they the should wear body cams because then you can see what each officer did or does when on the job. This would help us especially if something goes wrong during a call or in a case where you might need evidence or proof.
Yes, I feel they should wear body cams. You can see what each of the officers did and know what actually happened and not just go off of there word. I get that some people don't like them but it will make people feel safer knowing they have body cams. If we know what happened it would make court faster because they would have video proof and not just have they say what they said because most the time people don't remember there exact words.
Yes, I do think that police should have to wear body cameras. Wearing body cameras can help get evidence if something happens not only for the people in the community but they could help the police officers too if anything were to happen. Another thing is that if an officer knows he has a camera on him it will push him to do the right thing.
Yes, I think that they should have to wear body cameras. Not only could it help protect the community, it could also help protect the officers. Wearing body cameras could help with things like evidence in court. It could also encourage officers to do the right thing while on duty.
