Should Photoshop be banned?

Photoshop is an app that can alter photos so that you can make them look just how you want them to. Most advertisements and influencers usually use photoshop to make their pictures look even better in hopes that it will bring them more customers or followers. Unfortunately, sometimes this has a negative impact on people, so should photoshop be banned?

Photoshop is used to make any imperfections in your picture perfect. But then that altered photo is passed off as the real thing without many people even noticing. For example, if a company photoshops the model to have smoother skin, it might make someone feel insecure about themselves. About 99.9% of photos seen online have been photoshopped in some way. That means that most of these pictures are not the real copy, and there are more perfect photos that people might compare themselves to.

Although photoshop can have a negative effect on people, it can also be positive. It allows artists to be more creative. Photoshop isn’t always used to create unrealistic standards, many times it is used to make a more unique design. This can bring joy to artists and might even bring in more customers for businesses.  Without Photoshop, it would be more difficult to make a beautiful, unique picture. Sometimes it can be used as a tool for an artist or photographer.

Photoshop can be both good and bad. I think it's good that it can make images more creative and beautiful, but I don’t think it's necessary to alter the way people look. Photoshop is just an app and it's the person using it that can cast it in a negative or positive light. I also hope people realize that not every picture they see is real, I think that could help too.

Have you ever used photoshop?

Do you think it should be banned?

  • I have never used photoshop. I don't see a point in using photoshop because it is just fake and I don't care that much about social media. I think that it should definitely be banned. It's advertising something that isn't real. People are comparing themselves to social media influencers who edit their photos.

  • I have never used photoshop because I don't see the point. I don't think it should be banned though. If someone wants to use photoshop then thats there decision and other people should not be affected by that. Sometimes you can really tell if its photoshop and we have become more advanced to know what photoshop looks like now and can point many things out to tell if something is photoshopped.

  • I have never used photoshop because I don't really have social media. I do not think that it will get banned. But something that could be done is to put a watermark on photos that have been photoshoped because then people know that it is not real.

  • I have never used photoshop and I don't see any need to. I do not see why people use photoshop to change the way they look in pictures, it is pointless and they should be more proud of who they are. I think that if people use photoshop because they don't think they look good in pictures, it actually causes more damge to them because they are upset with what they do not look like.

  • Yes and No. Some photographers use photoshop to help with backgrounds and just to edit some things it for effects or anything like that. School banners are photoshoped a little to match the school theme or whatever. not all photo shop is bad, but some use it in ways they shouldn' t and make it bad thats why most people would think its bad. It just depends on whos using it and what they are using it for.

  • I haven't ever used Photoshop. There are still people that use it to take out or change logical things, like something in the background or changing the color. Not all people use it in a bad way, it's those people that use it unrealistically that give it a bad name.

    • I agree, many people use it logically so it shouldn't be banned

  • I haven't ever used Photoshop, but I don't think it should be banned. A lot of people use it to take annoying/unwanted things out of pictures and to change the color of their photos, it's mainly used for wedding, graduation, or family photos which can be very important/memorable photos so you want them to look good.

  • No, I have never used photoshop. I do not think that photoshop should be banned because it is not always used in a bad way. People can use photoshop to make really cool pictures, and I think that we shouldn't take that away from them just because it's used to create unrealistic standards.

  • I haven't used photoshop before but i think it should be banned because it causes people to put a false image in their head about how they should look.
