An energy drink is a beverage that typically contains large amounts of caffeine, added sugars, and other additives. These drinks are often used by students to provide an extra boost in energy. However, If you drink energy drinks it can have a harmful effect on your nervous system. For teens, 12 to 18, it recommends that they should not exceed 100 milligrams of caffeine a day, according to the CDC. Plus most energy drinks contain 100–300 milligrams of caffeine per serving, although amounts can vary. So drinking and energy drinks can be bad if they are over 100 mg.
History on energy drinks: Energy drinks started during 1962 with Lipovitan D by a company named Taisho in Japan. Lipovitan D had extra caffeine and vitamins and was marketed as medicinal tonics. Later, in 1987, Red Bull energy drink was invented. After that many other places began to produce energy drinks.
10,000 to 20,000 kids aged 12 to 17 years went to the emergency room for an energy drink related emergency.
Some of the dangers of energy drinks include:
- Dehydration
- Heart complications
- Anxiety
- Insomnia
I do drink energy drinks and I personally think they are ok for you but if you overdose it can become very harmful and you can possibly die from overdosing. But I do watch how much caffeine I ingest for the day.
What drinks are considered energy drinks?
Should kids be drinking energy drinks?
Should there be an age restriction on energy drinks?
Replies
I also think that parents should have a say whether or not there kids are drinking energy drinks because they could over consume them.
I dont think there should be an age restiction on energy drinks. Some people need them if they don't do well with sleep or they just don't have energy. Some times it can help. Also, some parent allow their children to have them so, if other parents(assuming its parents that have an issue with kids drinking them) then they dont have to let their kids drink them.
I agree with what you said and yes parents sometimes don't agree with kids drinking energy drinks because they think they are bad for you.
I dont think kids should be allowed to drink energy drinks because I think it is bad for your health. I also think it's okay to have one about every week but I don't think you should be having more than 1. I think there should be an age restriction.
I think energy drinks are drinks with high amounts of caffiene. I think you should be able to get them if you want but it's just your choice whether you do drink them or not. I don't think there should be an age restriction but that doesn't mean parents should be giving their toddler energy drinks.
I think drinks that have over around 50mg of caffine can be considered as an energy drink. I think little kids shouldn't be drinking energy drinks, but once they hit the middle-high school age they should be able to. There shouldn't be a legal age restriction to the drinks.
I agree that 50mg of caffine is considered as a energy drink because it gives you about a good amount of energy for the day, but if it is under 50mg it really dosen't give you energy.
I think people should be able to drink energy drinks if they want to. ENergy drinks are just like coffe if you drink them slow and dont overdose on all the caffine thats in them. I think enegy drinks are for people that dont like coffe.
I think any kind of drinks with high amounts of caffine sugars should be considered as an energy drink. Kids should not be drinking these kind of drinks all they do is damage your body. I can see drinking half of an energy drink once every so often would be okay but I do think there should be a limit on the intake of energy drinks.
I agree that energy drinks with a high amount of caffeine are considered energy drinks because they give you a lot of energy.
