Bay of Pigs

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military landing operation on the southwestern coast of Cuba in 1961. The Americans barely supported the Bay of Pigs invasion and despite it's failure. They went to swampy area on the southern coast of Cuba on a night landing might bring a force ashore against little resistance and help to hide any U.S. involvement to help the Bay of Pigs to win the war. Unfortunately the landing site also left the invading force more than 80 miles from refuge in Cuba's Escambray Mountains, if anything went wrong.

The original invasion plan called for two air strikes against Cuban air bases. A 1,400 men invasion force would go under cover in the darkness underground and they will launch a surprise attack underground. The United Revolutionary Front will send leaders from South Florida to help and establish a provisional government for the Bay of Pigs. The CIA had used World War II B-26 bombers and painted them to look like Cuban air force planes. The bombers missed many of their targets and left most of Castro's air force connected.

As news broke of the attack photos of the repainted U.S. planes became public and revealed American support for the invasion. President Kennedy cancelled a second air strike. On April 17, the Cuban exile invasion force known as Brigade 2506  landed at some of the beaches along the Bay of Pigs and immediately came under fire. Cuban planes strafed the invaders sank two escort ships and destroyed half of the exile's air support.

My thoughts..  It's sad that the Bay of Pigs failed.  Many of the soldiers died because of th5tf;ois war. I am glad they were trying to win the war but it was hard for them. They did'nt do a great battle between Cuba.

  • The Counterattack The Bay of Pigs invasion was an abortive invasion of Cuba in April 1961 by some 1,500 Cuban exiles opposed to Fidel Castro. The invasion was financed and directed by the U.S. government. I would be dead or I would be in jail for not joining but The Bay of Pigs invasion was the failed attempt by US-backed Cuban exiles to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro.

  • They didn't have a complete plan going into this invitation they just went in and it failed. I would not like to be apart of this war It was a big loss and kind of pointless to do what we did.

  • There were many holes in the plan for the invasion of the Bay of Pigs. I think those mistakes and rushing the plan is what caused the Bay of Pigs invasion to fail. I would not like to be a part of this war because that would be a very scary situation to be in.

  • I think that the bay of pigs attack failed becuase of the many flaws in the plan. The ex-cuban military that had been trained in Florida. Because of the many spies this plan went terribly. There were lacking numbers, and a lack of will to fight and earn back their land.

  • I think the Bay of Pigs failed because of a lack of numbers and the invasion not being planned properly. This war was between the United States and Cuba. If I was a part of this war, I would be scared and worried.

  • I think the Bay of Pigs invasion failed due to lack of numbers on the invasion. When the US attacked, they were not backed up by more anti-Castro Cubans for help. The US made several faulty errors, espceially when it came to trying to attack without being discovered.

  • I only do think with the bay of the pigs I think they did a good jobs with the sucess of the war and doing all of it all good and doing what they need to do to go and get it done during the times they do it.

  • If I was a part of this war I would be terrified but also I would be in it for a good reason to fight for my country. This war was between America and Cuba. I think that Kennedy had a big part in this war. The Bay of Pigs was not successful.

  • I think that the bay of pigs failed because Kennedy didn't bring the planes and that Castro knew that the U.S.A was planning to attack Cuba. Kennedy one hundred percent started this war but back then it was for a good reason. The Bay of Pigs was a fail for the U.S.A..

  • The invasion was planned very badly and caused a lot of people to die. If I was apart of this war I would be very scared and I would not know what to do. The Bay of Pigs was a very unsuccessful thing.
