Are Wind Turbines Good or Bad?

Over the past few decades, wind turbines have become much more popular in our area. Most of these structures stick up over 200 feet in the air to catch as much wind as possible. There are many pros and cons of this energy source, but is it really worth it, or not?

Some of the pros to using wind turbines is that wind is a natural resource. We are never going to run out of wind so this is a very reliable source, as long as the wind turbines are functional.  Wind turbines also have a very low operating cost and don't require a lot of space. Another good thing about them is that there is an abundance of jobs that were created to build, and work on, all of them. This helps stimulate our countries economy and lowers unemployment.

Although there are many good things about wind turbines, there is also some not so good. To start with, we are not guaranteed wind all the time, so the turbines are sitting at an idle and making no energy. These also are not the most visually appealing along the intersate and they also cause noise pollution. They also are can't stand up the best to exreme weather due to them being very light so the wind can blow them. The typical life span of a wind turbine is only 20 years. That's not very long over the scope of things, so what happens to them after that? Well once the broken ones are torn down, they get thrown in what is basically wind turbine graveyards where they pollute the ground and lay in a heap.

I think that it seems like a good idea, but i feel that there are better ways to make energy using natural resouces. Building hydroelectric dams is one way that seems more effective and reliable to me.

Do you think Wind Turbines are effective?

Why or why not?

What do you think is the most reliable and effeciant way to make energy?

  • Wind Turbines are effective; they are a better way to produce energy without burning coal and other materials that would harm the environment more. I think Hydroelectric power is the most effective. Also there is a lot of water around the world that we can use to produce energy.

  • I think that wind turbines are very small in relation to power plants I think that they are not very effective because they can only run in certain conditions only when the weather is good enough for them to run

  • I think wind turbines are very, very small in relation to power plants. I think that they are not very effective, because they can only run in certain conditions. It cannot be too windy, and it cannot be calm. Any winds above 40-50 miles an hour will force the managers to shut the turbines down.
