WWII Projects
Today we listened to presentations about different countries for our WWII projects.
Australia:
1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them? Got German New Guinea, Bismark, Archiplago, and Nauru all islands from Germany.
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)? Federal Constitutional Monarchy-they have a monarch but is only for tradition. Also have a prime minister who they elect to make the rules
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power? Leader was John Curtin and didn’t want to follow Robert Menzie’s government because he thought it would split up the labor party.
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
They didn’t really change they were just there for support before and during the war.
5. What were the goals of the leader? They didn’t a purpose to be in the war except to defend Great Britain.
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)? Following what Great Britain did. Hitler demanded land and GB was giving them land to not go into war.
7. What role did they play in WWII? Fighting over in Great Britain most of their men were there and fighting in the air force. It was the base of operation against Japan.
8. Who were their allies in WWII? US and Great Britain. Were part of the allied power.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country? Made them have more factories. Their peace time grew. They became less dependent of Great Britain and friendlier with the US.
Canada:
1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them? Only slightly impacted Canada. Canada received a small payment from Germany. She did not though receive any money or land through Treaty
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)? Military Service Act,War Measures Act, and turned towards isolation. Controlled by Great Britain.
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power? Sir Robert Borden retired then in 1921 William Lyon Mackenzie King took his place.
4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
