WPA and IRA

The WPA, also known as Works Projects Administration, was the largest New Deal agency. It employed a lot of people to several different projects in the country. It built many roads and operated many fine arts. Dang near every community in this country benefited from this agency. This project sucked nearly 7 billion dollars into it to build new bridges parks and stuff to make a community “unique.” This agency was founded by the congress with special help from FDR. This agency ended in 1943.

The IRA, or known as the Indian Reorganization Act, reserved certain rights for the Native Americans. Not all tribes had to follow this act but those who did had to.• Allow the tribal council to employ legal council• Prohibit the tribal council from engaging land transitions without majority from the tribe• Authorize the tribal council to negotiate with the federal, state, and local gov. This act gave nearly 8000 square kilometers back to the Indians for whatever use they wanted. But then eventually led to the downfall of the Indian nation. In 1995 the IRA was then determined unconstitutional. The act proved to be successful but when it was all said and done and left up to the Indians they just couldn’t govern themselves properly.
