World War one affected women in numbers of ways. They had to work in factories and in fields, drive trolly cars, and were nurses in the war. Women had to do all of this because so many men were going off to war. Most women didn't like the work they had to do. Back in America things weren't so easy for women. They had to keep up a good home, take car of their children, and take place of men in working so the economy wouldn't fall apart. Women had always depended on men for financial support. Women had to support for themselves and their children. Everyone was losing brothers, husbands, fathers ect. The Women's Royal Air Force was created so more men could go off to war. The WRAF provided women mechanics to take place of men in building airplanes.Women were a big part of the war, they were really important. Men were fighting for women and their families. Pictures of women would be put on postcards and posters to remind men what they were fighting for. Seeing these pictures would reasure men, and they would feel comfort thinking about their loved ones back at home. Women were also wanted to focus on reproducing. With the war and so many people dying, there was a huge decline in population.
Women that were nurses during the war were emotionally and physically drained. They had to perform and live in terrible conditions. They had to clean wounds, give treatments with rare supplies, and perform minor surgeries. Inspight of the long hours and tiring work women were still expected to treat men and be motherly figures for them. In Europe if a women tried to help an injured man in the streets she would just be killed instantly.
I personally don't think the war could have ended the way it did without the help of women. The world really did change when WWI started. Women were a huge help and had a big part in the war. I think no doubt women were critical to the success of the military's operation in Europe.
