The invasion of Iraq in 2003 was led by the U.S., our allies included Britain, Spain, Poland, Australia, and other countries.According to George W. Bush we invaded Iraq for three main reasons. The reasons include getting rid of their weapons of mass destruction, make Sudam Hussein not support terrorism, and to free Iraqis. A lot of people did not want to go to war against Iraq in 2003. There was a rally of up to three million people in Rome opposing the war, it was put in the Guinness book of world records as the largest anti- war rally.The first thoughts of going to war in Iraq was mainly after the Gulf war in 1991. After the incident of 9/11, was when Bush knew he wanted to go to war. He called the war "the war against terroism." He backed up his reasoning with a doctrine, which became known as the Bush Doctrine. Bush gave Hussein and his two sons a 48 hour warning to surrender on March 17, 2003, so there would not be a war. They did not surrender, but they started bombing Iraq in the 18th..24 hours before the warning would end. The war started with an air strike to the Presidential Palace on March 19, 2003. The next day, On March 20th...they began bombing. (90 minutes after the warning was officially over).Iraq's weapons were mainly soviet made. The weapons were nothing compared to U.S's & their allies. U.S. easily bribed Iraq soldiers into surrendering. Qusay Hussein, Sudam's son,was also easily fooled..he confused himself and that's when U.S. Marines attacked. They say that the main reason Iraq lost was because they did not believe the U.S. would follow through. They were not in touch with reality and did not expect a war to happen.The end of the war was May 1,2003. Bush landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln, where he gave a speech about the ending of the war. Behind Bush when he gave the speech was a sign that said Mission Accomplished. Many people looked at it as immature. The after war results were somewhat limited. There were some resistance, mostly guerilla warfare. The resistance was mainly because of Sudam Hussein.
