4. What did the US government/military do to to ensure another attack did not occur? They shut down all airplanes so no planes would be in the air
5. Why was President Bush sent to Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha? It was a secure place, had good communication, also had a bunker. It was the heartland of the US.
6. Why did President Bush eventually insist on going back to Washington D.C. later that day against the will of the Secret Service? He wanted to go home and address everyone from The Oval Office
7. What was the point of President Bush's message to the nation on the evening of 9-11? To comfort people and declare war without actually declaring war.
8. Why did President Bush decide not to blame the CIA/FBI for not doing their job? No one could've known this was going to happen. There was no hints about this happening.
9. How did President Bush feel when he heard that Osama bin Laden had been killed? He felt relieved, grateful, and had closure.

bones, clothing, skull (religious purposes), horns (toys, decor, knifes) , tongue (food), pelt (clothing, blankets, hair (rope, saddle stuffing), fat (cooking, make soap), brain (canning hide, hooves (glue and tools), stomach (buckets and cooking pots), tail (decoration and fly swat)
Mountain Men- explorers, trappers living in the wilderness. Very common in the Rocky Mountains, employed by fur companies (built shacks)
US Military- containing the Native Americans in the West = led to many battles called the American Indian wars. Little Big Horn. Custards Last Stand (Indians beat Military)
THURSDAY- cattle ranking & cowboys (1867-1880)
Open range- area of land where cattle roam free (still some today)
Railhead towns-towns at the end of railroads
Ranchers- people who owned ranches & cattle
Texas longhorns- cross breed of cattle
Long drive- taking the cattle to market from Texas to Kansas railhead = 1,000 miles
Cattle Barons- bigger ranchers (pushed out smaller ranchers)
25% of cowboys where ex-slaves
Life of a cowboy- lonely & dangerous
Cattle industry fell when the price of beef fell
Longhorn Steer- They were a cross breed between the settlers cattle and Mexican cattle
Cowtowns (Dodge City Kansas) ranchers go there, town where you eat, sleep, take a bath
Lots of money to be spent, drinking, gambling, fights, prostitution, gunfights, duels (took law into their own hands)

Long drives important because they needed to get the cattle to the railroad
Why did they come to an end after only 15-20 years? Started to make railroads closer, barb wire, great plains were turning into farming
