Monday- NO SCHOOL!  

Tuesday- Japanese Internment Camp- relocated Japanese/american citizens were they were relocated into camps (no killings), looked like army barracks, they lived their lives and got jobs like normal to do with war. They did jobs that had to do with the war including: women packed crates and did paper work, men were in the fields. These were not slave labor camps! kids went to school preschool-high school and there were sports teams for entertainment. In 1993 Bill Clinton wrote a letter to all of the families that were affected. WWII SEMESTER TEST QUESTIONS- be able to describe the causes in (Asia, Europe, and for the US) effects and major events of WWII, also be able to describe why the US and Allies on WWII. In Europe: treaty of Versailles, the great depression, Hitler's actions in the 1930's, Mussolini's actions in the 1930's, failure of the league of nations, policy of appeasement, Hitler's invasion of Poland (result of declaration of WWII), rise of nationalism. In Asia: the great depression, Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931, Japanese invasion of China in 1937. For the United States: Quit trading supplies (oil) with Japan in the summer of 1941, Tough policies towards Japan in Fall 1941, and Pearl Harbor Attack.

Effects of WWII on US:

Stimulated Economy- 17 million new jobs created, average wages increased 30%, middle class greatly expanded

Federal power during the war increased- Shifted from state laws to federal laws- important during civil rights era and Vietnam War. Also more women involved in the workforce, also more women would continue to go to college. There were more rights for African Americans- integrated troops. The US became the world power.

German Nazi party  was completely destroyed and Germany was broken up into 4 zones which became 2 countries. Japanese cities were destroyed from bombing and Japan was placed under US military rule, Most deaths ever in a war, united nations started (could actually send troops in to stop what is about to happen), Cold War- US vs USSR (soviet union), Hitler was appointed Chancellor. 

United States had 305,000 Deaths, Soviet union 1.6, Japan 1.2 million, China 1.3 million, Germany 3.2 million
