Key Questions- Why did the settlers/people move to the great plains/west? Describe a cowboy's life. Describe the importance of the buffalo to Native Americans and how the buffalo were destroyed.
People moved to the Great Plains because of farm land. People also moved there because of gold/ hunting. There was cattle ranching. Manifest Destiny- God given right to move west.
Cattle Ranching- Cattle were in high demand because people needed meat to survive.
Shepherding- They had wool that you made into clothes. The reaper made harvest quicker for the farmers. Different inventions- The Plow, Windmill, Barbed wire.
Homestead Act- people were given 160 acres to farm for free. 600,00 people moved west to get land. People moved west to mine silver and gold in California, Nevada, South Dakota, Colorado, Alaska. Main Railroads were Union Pacific and the Central Pacific. The people that worked on the railroad were Chinese.
