Wednesday- colonization of America- You want to settle there and came to stay. Guns and numbers were on the European side. French settled in United States and Canada. John Hancock was the most important signature. Articles of confederation was the first government. They wanted to be like Britain so they gave the power to the states. The United States was the ununited States of America. Constitution separation of power. George Washington stepped down at 8 years.
Thursday- Congress house of the seneant 100 people in it. They have the power of making laws/bills that become laws. They declare war. President can pass or veto the laws/bills. He enforces the law as best as they can. Deals with other countries. Supreme court have the final say in the laws. 15 gave black males to right to vote. 5 groups of people that voting rights have been given to black males, females, 21-18 years old, people that lived in washington DC could not vote. Going west for gold, new land, and adventure. 1840 was when a lot of new land was brought in to America. Texas was part of Mexico it opened immigration for the United States. Mexico was independent from Spain. No slaves in Mexico. Had to be Roman catholic. Problems in the mexican and American war, Pope moved troops to the border. Mexico thought that we were invading and they attacked so pope said that they attacked us. We won and we payed for it but they did not have a choice. Southwest part of the United States.
Friday- Dred Scott case- Slavery could not be abolished anywhere, so if you wanted to have slaves then you can have slaves. California and Oregon because of the gold rush and all the people that went there to get the gold and strike rich. Some people in the congress did not want to get ride of slavery. The South had a better reason to to fight because that is their livelihood and the southern economy would be gone. The North won. Reconstruction 1865-1877. Rebuilding American after the war. The south had to be brought back into the union. They had to rebuild buildings, tracks and cities because people destroyed them. Southern economy changed. Slaves had to find family and family members had lost many family members. Ab Lincon wanted to be easy on the south and they were not a different country and they just needed to be scolded. He was much better than Andrew Johnsen. Lincoln had a democrat vice. Having him on his side it would give him some votes because the people that did not know who to vote for they went to him. Creating jobs for people to create a better economy. Split South into 5 military districts controlled by US Army. Freedmen's Bureau set up to help former slaves. Carpetbaggers took over the government. Northerners are getting tired of this and it had to end. Whites took over the government. Jim Crow laws and segregation was established. African Americans would not see the rights they should have had in 1865until 1945.
