    • The war was unpopular 
    • Went to war becasue we thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction
    • Saddam Hussein had 90 minutes to leave Iraq
    • We invaded Iraq in March 2003
    • US, British, and other coalition forces quickly overwhelmed the Iraqi Army
    • US soldiers found Saddam Hussein in a secen foot hole near Tikrit

    • Election held in Iraq in October, 2005, giving Shia the majority control of the government
    • Began trial in October 2005 for crimes against his people and mass killings

    • The US started airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. 
    • The Pentagon announced they were traingin Syrian rebels to combat against ISIS- this program failed after only getting 150 recruits

    • Followed through plans that were made while Ovama was in office
    • Cut ISIS forces down to 3,000 left in Iraq and Syria

Friday- Vietnam and Korean War presentation

  • Korea after WW2
    • Japanese rule ends
    • Korea is split
    • Soviet Russia takes over the north and becomes communist
    • America takes over the South and becomes democratic
  • The start of the war
    • On June 25 1950, 75,000 North Korean soldiers cross the 38 parallel kicking off the Korean war. 
    • By July the US has enterend the war
    • Not a war 
    • North Korea overewhelmed the south and the US entered and got Korea out of teh way
    • Chinese get involved and pushed back 
  • Stalemate
    • Both sides were willing to call a ceasefire
    • Both were willing to have a demilitarized zone
    • The US didn't want to give back POWs
  • Korean Armistice Agreement
    • Peace talks began in 1951
    • The talks were to release POWs
    • In 1953 the armistice was signed
    • South Korea did not sign
  • Modern Day
    • Things have been tense in Korea since the end of the war
    • In 2006, North Korea got nuclear weapons
    • In the past months North Korea has been making promises
    • On April 26th 2018, North and South Korean leaders met for the first time
    • Both sides are working towards officially ending the war

      • Saddam attacked because was faced with a potentially severe economic criseis following the Iran war

    • Who Won:
      • US won with ease in 42 days
      • US took over in no time
    • Effect:
      • Helped the US economy 
      • Allowed the United Nations to inspect to monitor Iraq for evidence of nuclear weapons

      • When he took over he did a few good things:
        • Modernixed the infrastucture
        • Improved health care
      • Was still a ruthless leader
