Week of March 27 - March 31

Monday - No school.

Tuesday -

Pearl Harbor - Sunday December 7, 1941. In Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory. Japanese major victory, U.S. Declaration of War on Japan, Germany and Italy declare war on the United Stats. Then the United States declares war on Germany and Italy. All eight United States Navy battleships were damaged, four were sunk. Three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft ship and one mine layer ship were sank or damaged. 188 U.S aircraft were destroyed. 2,402 were killed and 1,282 were wounded. There was propaganda for recruiting because people volunteered. There was a song called Remember Pearl Harbor.

Why - After Japan invaded French Indochina in 1940, the United States stopped trading oil with Japan. Japan signed the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact in April, 1941 guaranteeing that Japan and USSR would not go to war. Japan realized that they needed US trade to be successful in war. Only way to force the United State's hand was to hit them hard in a surprise attack forcing them out of war. Japan knew it was a huge risk, nut thought it was the only way to defeat the US.

Backdoor to War Conspiracy - People think that Roosevelt knew it was going to happen and he let it happen so people would get behind entering in the war.
