Week of Jan. 30- Feb. 3

Monday: Finish direct democracy skit. Class quiz. Trump has ban on Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen because of ISIS. Protesters think this ban is racist, many see it as a Muslim ban. Muslim people are coming in from other parts of the world-Trump doesn’t mean for this to be racist, he’s just targeting terrorism. The ban is only temporary-3 months.

Tuesday: look over Europe map, talk about Trump firing the Attorney general.

Wednesday:

Monarchy-

Absolute: Rule by one person (king or queen)/a hereditary king or queen that does not need to follow the laws or Constitution

Examples:

  • King Abdullah-Saudi Arabia

  • French King Louis XIV-France

  • Philip II-Spain

  • Mgwenya  Mswati III- Swaziland

  • Pope of Catholic Church-Vatican City

Constitutional: The king or queen doesn’t have all the power-it’s limited by a Constitution

Examples:

  • Norodom Sihamoni-Cambodia

  • Prince Albert II-Monaco

  • King Harald V- Norway

  • Queen Margrethe II- Denmark

  • Grand Duke Henri- Luxembourg

  • Queen Elizabeth- United Kingdom

Practice of Communism- a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all but a single or several people controls most everything/the government controls and owns everything

Examples:

  • USSR Soviet Russia-1st communist country

  • China

  • North Korea

  • Vietnam

  • Cuba

Theory of Communism-The ideas of Karl Marx to create a perfect government that cover everyone’s needs and everyone gets equal shares

Examples:

  • No examples, it’’s never actually happened-leaders turn into dictators and keep more for themselves

Notes

*Government provides for all, but controls.

*It can turn into a dictatorship

*Capitalism leads to income inequality-top 1% has most of the wealth the bottom 90% has little of the country’s money-Bernie Sanders preached this

*Karl Marx came up with communism- the workers of the country are going to overtake the leaders eventually-the government will wither away

Thursday:

Capitalism-an economic system where a country’s trade and industry is controlled by private owners (the people) for profit rather than ruled by state/businesses own businesses not the state

Examples:

  • United States

  • Germany

  • Japan

  • Canada

  • Australia

Socialism: Where properties and businesses are owned by the government

Examples: None are completely socialist

  • China

  • North Korea

  • Sweden

  • Cuba

  • Denmark

Anarchy-no government/countries fall into anarchy

Examples:

  • Somalia

  • England-English civil war

  • France-French revolution

  • Russia- Russian civil war

Oligarchy-a small group of people that run the government by themselves

Examples:

  • United States

  • China

  • India

  • Britain

  • Russia
