Week of February 5th to February 9th

Monday-

Boulder(Hoover) Dam- located near Las Vegas, Huge project lots of work and creates power.

Bonus Expetitionary Force- WWI fighters, they were promises money. They marched to DC to get their bonus early, the government didn't have money to give them yet. Hoover had to force these people out.

1932 election- Hoover vs. FDR. FDR Won. 

FDR's Brain Trust- A bunch of people who had good ideas were very smart. 

Fireside chats- where the president talked to people directly through the radio. 

Deficit Spending, Priming the pump.'

Presentations-

*Social Security- Created social insurance. Wanted people to not be in poverty. Garunteed income for the unemployed and retirees. It was successful. It is still around today

*Fair Labor Standards Act- Established minimum wage, determines working hours, overtime pay. States may differ. Overtime- 40 hours is average Pay is required, youth is an exception. 1 1/2 original wage per hour. Yes it is still around today. Enforces chlid labor laws.

Tuesday-

 National Youth Administration- Started on June 26th 1935, led by Aubry 

provided work training, and provide financial aid. THey had a few options for learning. In-school and Out of school programs. In school used tax payers money. Out of school was on the site training. $6 dollars a month. It stopped in 1939 and completely faded out in 1944. Wasn't needed anymore.

Home Owners Loan Corporation- It was made in 1933 $200 million dollars was used to start it up. Purspose- refinance home mortgages. Made sure people didn't lose their homes.  It closed in 1936 because of lack of money. 

Civillian Conservation Corps- founded in 1933 failed in 1942. Helped young men providing jobs requiring little knowledge related to natural resources. Men were given $30 per month. $5 dollars went to you $25 went to your family. It worked for awhile, but later it ran out of money.

Wednesday-

 Federal Emergency Relief Act- They distributed $3 billion in relief to 20 million Families and that created jobs. Relief Project- construction and writers and artist, Consumer goods, canned food, garments, bedding and mattresses. It was successful but ended because of new administrations took over.

Public Works Administration- Oversaw the spending of billions of dollars on construction to provide more jobs and boost the economy. Hired half a million Private Contractors to build their projects. Built many schools and Hospitals in the years it was around. It was didn't do much for the economy so the said it was more of a fail than it was a success.

Civil Works administration-Helped Americans get through the winter og 1933-1934, Put jobless americans to work. Gave them temperary jobs/ projects to get them through the winter. It was successful, Many people were employed and still had jobs after the winter.

Federal Project Number One Project- Extended the relief of the New Deal to artist, actors, and writers, and muscians, Yes it was successful it employed many people in the fine arts areas of jobs. 

Thursday-

*Federal Securities Act- First legislation used to  regulate the stock market, Took power away from states and gave more power to the federal government, 2 parts- Security Act regulates offers and sales of securities, Exchange act- requires companies to periodic reports

Federal Housing Adminitration gave people a chance to take loans so they didn't lose their house, It was successful for awhile, but they ran out of money. There are still mortgage programs today.

National Labor Relation Act- Was for preventing harm to The economy, Workers, and Those in private seectors, Protect the right of employees and employers, encourage collective bargaining, reduce certain managment practices, reduce certain private sector labor, It was succesful, it is now the National Labor Relation Board. IT IS STILL AROUND TO THIS DAY.

*Securities and Excahnge Commision- First chairman was Joseph Kennedy, Protected investors, maintained markets, monitored corporate takeovers, there are five divisions, It helped investors and the stock market, It was successful, it broke up large companies, managed money for the government. It is still around today.

*Food Drug and Cosmetic Act- It was laws that gave authority to the FDA to make sure everything was safe before it was released to the public,It was sucessful, and it is still aorund today. It is now called Food Safety Modernization Act.

Friday-

 The Agriculture Adjustment Act- Limiting farmers production in their crops and they would be paid for that. Helped out farmers, It was successful because crop prices grew and the farmers still made money. It is not around because it was declared unconstitutional. 

Federal Project One- Subdivision of the Works Progress Administration, It gave jobs to Artists, Musicians, actors, and writers, It would entertain the public. It lasted until 1939

 *Rural Electrification Administration- provided loans for the installation of electricity of rural areas, It was very successful, 98% of farms had electricity in the 1970's, It was abolished in 1994 and function was assumed by the rural utilities service, 

*Indian Reoragization Act- US wanted the indians to adopt the US government style, the indians could make their own government as long as it was within the government standard, Most tribes liked it some didn't, Created jobs for indian reservations, led to many casinos on Indian Reservations.

 *Emergency Banking Relief-They wanted to stablize the banking system, they would re-open banks when they didn't have money, It was going to be temporary but ended up being a long term things,
