Militarism - They were building up armies. To settle disputes. Not really a good thing necessarily.
Imperialism - two countries wanted an island - they crash.
Nationalism - Proud of your country. It sometimes goes too far.

•Be able to identify the US policy that Wilson declared when WWI broke out in 1914
#1 Reason: Sussex Pledge
President Wilson-“End the attack on unarmed ships or risk the severing of diplomatic relations”
Germany responded on May 4, the 1916 with the “Sussex Pledge”
end the sinking of passenger ships
search merchant ships for contraband and make provisions for passengers and crews before sinking merchant ships
The German guarantees were generally honored until the announcement of the resumption of unrestricted submarine warfare in February 1917
#2 Reason: The Zimmerman Note
Was a coded telegram send by Foreign Secretary of Germany, Arthur Zimmermann on January 16, 1917
It was sent to the German ambassador in the United States
Germany tried to get Mexico to declare war on the United States
Germany promised Mexico that they would get the Mexican Cession back if they won
Germany wanted to keep the US out of Europe
Telegraph was intercepted and put in the paper in March and one month and 5 days later we declared war
