Christopher Columbus
He was an Italian explorer who was born in 1451. He never knew he discovered a new continent.
Slavery was introduced in 1619 in Jamestown, Virginia. Around 6-7 million slaves were transported to America over the years. The U.S. was one of the last countries to abolish slavery. Slavery still exists today. July 4, 1776 was when we declared independence, but in truth, we did not defeat Great Britain on that day. George Washington was the first American President. He was the President of the Constitutional Convention and the Commander of the Continental Army. George and Martha married on January 6,1759. Martha, had in her possession, 300 slaves and 17,500 acres of land.
The Constitution was written on September 17, 1787 and is still in use now. It was written during the Constitutional Confederation. Before the Constitution we had the failed Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation gave too much power to the states. The Constitution protects peoples rights.
The Trail of Tears began in 1830 and lasted until March 1839. Many Native Americans were driven off of their land. Andrew Jackson ordered all of the natives to leave the land and relocate to reservations under the Indian Removal Act. There were many epidemics along the trail and the trail was over 1,200 miles. America lost so much culture due to this trail. Oklahoma used to be Indian Territory. In 1907 Oklahoma became a state and the Indians were forced to leave again.
