Monday-
Big things that happened in 7th grade history was Revolutionary war, constitution/ bill of rights, slavery and civil war, colonization, the war of 1812 is important but not on a top 10 list, the native Americans traveled from south america to Alaska, reconstruction of america, Native Americans coming and going throughout the years, Exploration throughout the continents, Westward Expansion how we got control of all the U.S., Texas War for Ind. Mexican-American civil war
Native Americans- There is a theory that there was a land bridge throughout the Americas and through Russia Trial of tears is where the the Native Americans to go from the East to West coast to where today Oklahoma is. Disease, Took their land, lied to them about their land, went to war against them, killed their buffalo.
Explorers- Columbus, he found the new world, the vikings actually came first about 500 years earlier.
Magellan- his crew traveled the whole world, proving it was round.

Tuesday-
Spain and Portugal were the two main countries that traveled the world. There was a line that separated the world, the pope decided that line.
People colonize because of religion and freedoms. Spain settled in Modern day mexico and Texas, central america, Western south america, Florida and the Caribbean
Portugal settled in modern day Brazil
French settled in modern day Canada, central U.S.
England settled in Canada, and the east coast
13 colonies- Georgia, north and south Carolina, Virginia , Maryland, Delaware, new jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode island, new York, Massachusetts, There was no Maine at the time.
Causes of the Revolutionary War- Townshend Acts, Intolerable Acts, These act punished Boston, The French and Indian war started the taxation without representation The Boston massacre was an issue leading up to the Revolutionary War
The symbol of a snake became a symbol of the colonies.
The Declaration of Independence- It declares independence from great Britain, the declaration of independence says that the colonies have the right to fight back against Great Britain. The declaration of independence says everything that King George III was doing bad, and then the last paragraph is the colonies declaring independence.
Articles of Confederation- The Un-United States of America The state government didn't have to listen to the federal government.

U.S. constitution is a document that sets up our government It came about because of the failure of the articles, separation of powers was made so not one part of the government has all the power. Checks and balances, not one branch has all the power. Legislative makes laws, executive can pass or veto, judicial can declare laws unconstitutional. Father of the constitution is James Madison. Parts in congress house and the senate. 100 senators throughout the U.S. House is based on population 435 people are in the house. To be in the senate you have to be 30, and you serve for 6 years. House term is 2 years and you have to be 25.
Wednesday-
Powers in Congress- They make laws, declare war, set taxes, borrow money, override vetoes, print money, regulate international and national trade. December 8th 1941 was the last time that that we declared war. A president can serve for 10 years total. Franklin D Roosevelt served the longest as the president 12 years. The constitution is a living document, it protects states and people's rights through the amendment process, it sets up our government and it's responsibilities. The west was Appalachian mountains at one time. They moved because of the gold rush, religious reasons, farming, military reasons, silver mining, to cattle ranch.
Manifest Destiny we have the right to move east to west. Name 5 states within the Louisiana purchase.
Thursday-
Texas War Causes- The people of Texas doesn't want to be Catholics but Mexico forced them to be. The Mexicans let immigrants into Texas and then Mexico tried to force rules on them. The Texans ended up winning. Mexican-American War causes- the cause of the war was fighting because of the border between the U.S. and Texas. War broke out, and the U.S. ended up winning.
Civil War- Causes, sectionalism, slavery, states rights, tariffs, election of 1860 and secession
Sectionalism- North was industrial, and south had lots of farms, When new territories came in the other side would get worried because of the voting stand point.
Slavery- South needed lots of slaves, but the North didn't believe in that. There was lots of money issues. Another big issue for the south was when Lincoln had got elected. South tried to flee from the north. Missouri wanted to be a slave state. Maine was made to equal that out. The 36 30 line was drew so that slave states are below and above are not slave states. People wen to California because of gold.
Dred Scott was an African American that got freedom. The Supreme Court ruled that blacks aren't citizens. Suddenly, slavery could be anywhere in the country. The north was not a big fan of this. The south wanted to keep the way of life, and the north wanted to unite the U.S. The north had a lot more advantages. The south had better generals, more brains for the war.
Friday-
Congress wanted to get rid of Andrew Johnson, Andrew was one vote away from being kicked out of office. Bill Clinton was the only president that got impeached.Republican Radical Reconstruction- The U.S. needed to rebuild the Souths economy and physically rebuild it. Even when they weren't slaves the ex-slaves farmed as tenet farmers and just farmers in general. Split the south into 5 military districts. 13th amendment, no slavery, 14th amendment, they are citizens, 15th allowed men to vote. Women got the right to vote in 1920. Freedmen's bureau- food, clothes, education, job training. The north took over the southern governments. Called Carpetbaggers. The south didn't like these people. The scalawags were southerners that were traders. Southerners who supported the North. The governments set up school, built railroads, and industrialized the south.
