Wednesday(August 24) - Sophomores class meeting, was not in class.
Thursday(August 25) - Go over class expects and everything.
Friday(August 26) - Get first project. Get into groups. Start project.

Christopher Columbus - "Deserving the new world" Didn't actually discover America(vikings did)Brought with him disease and changes in the environment. Destroy native population. Deserving America was his first voyage. He thought he was in India, never knew he was in a new land. discovered america IN 1492. Made four voyages to America. New trade routes and new goods for England(good impact). Destroyed Native Americans. Native Americans were used as slaves. Stopped at Northern South America. Had three ships with him(The Nina, The Pinta, and The Santa.)Opening of the North America to settlement and Exploration.
Revolutionary War - 1775-1783. Tension between British government and American colonies. End of the war(The treaty of Pairs) George Washington(commander in chief of American army) Ben Franklin (patriot, inventor, helped wright the Constitution) Impacts US government was designed to limit the power and size of the government. Fought because of high taxes. 217,000 casualties. Won by Americans. Lots of battles and events(Boston tea party etc.) Paul Revere helped to warned people that the Britain was coming. Britain out number American in almost every battle/ has strong army. Lexington and Concord(started the war). Boston Tea Party(event that started the idea of the war). Sons of Liberty(group that started the idea of the war) King George III king of England. Benedict Arnold(Fighting for the us but turned over to the England army. trader.)
Civil War - April 12th, 1861 - May 26th 1865. Divided South and North over thoughts of slavery. Abraham Lincoln(president during the war, Was shot and killed right has the war was closing) South(confederate) North(Union) in the middle were border states, had slaves but stayed in the Union. 1860 election (Lincoln) causes seven southern states to secede, four more states left after the start of the war. Battle at Gettysburg(biggest/most important battle of the war/ turning point, North started to rise to power) Emancipation Proclamation(freed slaves in North and border states, made so slaves in South would go to the North to help fight, more numbers for the North) Kept America together.
African American Rights - Beginning in 1865. Republican party's suffrage(trying to free slaves) efforts. 14th amendment to make slaves and african Americans actually like people(but still weren't treated the same, would have same rights) 15th amendment( to make black man vote) Civil Rights Act of 1875.
Inventions(Thomas Edison) - The Quadruples Telegraph(1874) First version of copy machine(1876) The phonograph(1877) The carbon Transmitter(1877)
Constitution - 1787. Colonies not getting along with each other. Signed on September 17th. Executive(president), Legislative(congress), and Judicial(Super court) (three branches). Bill of Rights(1791) "un united states of america" Written to make American work together and be a better nations.
The War of 1812 - Starts June 812 to February 1815. United States vs. British Empire. Blocked trade is what started it. 20,000 total causality. British in two wars(fighting us and french, didn't care about us, thought french was a big threat. Once started wining in french started attack America harder) No real winner. James Madison(president) American forces capture York. British troops invade Washington D.C burned down the white house. Americans and British sign peace treaty stopping the war(signed December 24th). No geographical changes for either of them. Have now had two centenaries of peace. Boost of manufacturing capabilities since they run out of stuff really quickly during this war. Canada gained pride as British Empire. Our national anthem written during this war.
Native People Crossing the Bering Strait - 12,000 B. C. End of th3 last Age Glaciers froze- sea levels drop 300 ft across the world.Water freezing and locking up water, sea floor being exposed. First known people ti enter North America, began the development of America.
Jamestown Settlement - The first successful European settlement in the New World. Established May 14th, 1607. John Rolfe, a colonist, married Pocahontas, a Native American. This had huge impact, would have never formed as a country. Was the beginning to a very long feud. Jamestown didn't work right off the bat.
