-Korean War- Only 3 years long. After WWII Korea was split North controlled by USSR South controlled by US. Douglass MacArthur was in charge of forces in pacific He was then fired because he bad mouthed Truman and replaced by Ridgeway.
-Vietnam War-
Geneva Conference- Held after French leave and they split Vietnam in two North controlled by Minh south by Diem.
Ho Chi Minh/Trial- Wealthy man but always dressed as a peasant so people wouldn't look up to him much. Was communist leader of North Vietnam. Tried to get Independence.
Veit Cong- Went to the Jungle North Vietnam Army Guerillla Warfare-armed civilians or irregulars use military tactics including ambushes
Escalation- Truman sent money to French, Eisenhower continued US support and sending in Military Advisers, Kennedy continued adviser and sent in navy seals(green Berets), Johnson sent more and more combat forces.
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution- Many US ships were apparently attacked by North Vietnamese torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin. The resolution was to give Johnson Power to wadge war in Vietnam
Tet Offensive- Nearly every city in South Vietnam was attacked by the North.
Pentagon Papers- top secret study about the war that showed the gov't was lying to the people.
Operation Rolling Thunder- non-stop bombing raids in North Vietnam by US. It failed
Agent Orange- a herbicide that kills plants. and eventually gave the veterans a disease.
Napalm- A fire substance that burns and we attacked them with it
My Lai Massacre- 504 Vietnamese civilians killed and women were raped and mutilated.
Kent. St. University Protest/Massacre- the college students were protesting, rioting and national guard came.
Viernamization- pull out of the war and let the south fight
Paris Peace Accords- Stop fighting, we pull out, north and south Vietnam would recognize each others independence
