Video Questions:

  1. What was President Bush doing when he head of the attacks?

He was in a classroom in Florida

  1. According to President Bush, what is the first thing a leader needs to do for the country in a time of crisis?

Stay calm

  1. Why did the Secret Service refuse to allow Bush to go back to Washington DC right away?

Because they felt it would be irresponsible to go back into a city that had just been attacked when they don’t know what is going to happen next.

  1. What did the US government/military do to ensure another attack did not occur?

Shut down all airplanes/airports and command the planes in the air to land. If they didn’t listen to the order, the Air Force was ordered to shoot them down.

It was the safest place to be because they were away from all attacked cities, there was a secure bunker, and they had good communications.

  1. Why did President Bush eventually insist on going back to Washington DC later that day against the will of the Secret Service?

He wanted to get home and wrap up the day with a speech assuring people that they would keep the country safe and he wanted to do it in the oval office so the enemy wouldn’t get the satisfaction of knowing that the president wouldn’t go back home to DC.

  1. What was the point of President Bush’s message to the nation on the evening of 9/11?

Tried to comfort, grieve, and focus on offense- as close to a declaration of war without actually declaring it.

  1. Why did President Bush decide not to blame the CIA/FBI for not doing their job?

He wanted them to move forward and investigate the terrorist and not look back to try and figure out what they missed.

  1. How did President Bush fell when he heard that Osama Bin Laden had been killed?

Not happy, but a sense of relief, closure, and a sense of gratitude that justice was served.
